With so many having medical issues that cause pain

Has anyone triededical marijuana/cannabis oil?

It is supposed to do wonders for Crohn's disease, IBS, Fibromalygia, lupus,MS etc.

Wouldn't this be a better choice than pills for pain management?  I know my state is now part of the program. Will be talking to my doctor for sure. I am interested in the oil. Don't want to smoke it bc don't like the high feeling. (Even though the sleep would be nice).

Just thoughts.

Weaver - I have no idea. I just keep seeing articles about cannabis oil. You have given me a lot of info to look at. I thought it was just standard. Didn't know there were different forms.

It is legal in Illinois now too. They are starting to take applications now.  When you look at the site it has a long list of conditions you can get it for. Your issue must be on the list or you have to petition for it.

RickSimpson has slot of I go out on it. I am reading his stuff but looking at other sources too.

Hey Merril, we are desperately trying to get it legalised in Aus, for sick and dying babies, children and the elderly. At the moment, we are having so many stories on tv about legalising it. Parents are having to break the law and get their supply online for their sick loved ones. It is so sad to see our government still will not accept that this is curing autismn in kids, stopping babies from having seizures etc etc.
I didnt like this idea till i listened to the success stories. They say that the part that gets you high is taken out out the drug.
I think everything is worth a try and if it doesnt work, it doesnt work.
We need to stop thinking of Medicinal Marijuana as Marijuana. Ive seen the change in terminally ill patients using this med and the results are phenominal. Just my point of view anyway. Good luck Merril : )

there are only 3 states that cannabis is legal.
ANY other states that are legalizing cannabis oil is the kind that does not contain thc.  many of them are legalizing it for children and adults with seizures,
i have no idea if that would help with pain or not.  the only purpose i know of is for seizures.

unless you live in colorado, washington or california clarify with the doctor which form you would be getting.

The stuff they are giving to children, as I understand it, is an isolation of cannabanoids. Alone they do not get you high. When you say oil, that is a broad statement. Some of the oils that are made in a pharmaceutical lab do not contain THC. I have taken pure THC, but never pure canabanoid oils. Pure THC didn't get me High, I was bummed about that back then. My theory is that many of the alkaloids in cannabis work together to create different effect than they do alone. Plants also have different amounts of various alkaloids. Sativa and Indica strains are very different. In my addiction counseling class people were given different strains. Some people were paranoid on strains with high canabanol and low THC, yet the high THC low cannabonol didn't make the same person paranoid. That is why more research needs to be done to truly make it a medicine we can predict. What kind of oils you were talking about, with what kind of strains makes a big difference. Many canabanoids are alcohol soluble, so if that is the medicine your body needs, a tincture would work better and wouldn't get you high. Unfortunately we have special interest research taking place on the pro and anti side of cannabis, making objective studies impossible to identify, if there are any.

The physical addiction of cannabis is very mild in it's ability to actually change brain chemistry the way cocaine or opiates do. That makes it a good medicine for non addicts. But mental addiction changes our brains without chemicals, like gambling or sex addiction. That is why I think cannabis is a bad choice for people who are already addicts. I am not pro nor anti marijuana, or anything really. It is who uses it and how it is used and why that concern me. I will look into some research about crohns and see what I find. I don't doubt that it could help, just think it is important to know more about anything before putting it in our bodies. What kind of oil are you talking about?

Never tried it...didn't like the "real" stuff ever.  I also live in a state that will prob be one of the last ones to legalize medical marijuana.  My brother and mother do live in a pro state though and have friends (some in their 60's and 70's) that have had really good results for things like glaucoma, cancer and MS.

Thank you Weaver. I am only just starting to research this. Won't see my doctor for a couple months too.

I had not heard most of what you said. They are giving the oil etc to children. In IL it is illegal still for minors. Surprises me.

Everyone always says marijuana is not addicting. Never believed it myself but still.

THC and most alkaloids in cannabis are fat soluble, so the oil can make you feel high, just like smoking it. Assimilation is different, so it lasts longer and doesn't have a rush effect, but it definitely gets you high. I have missed a concert from eating brownies and falling asleep in the parking lot. Be very careful with dosage, if you do decide to use that medicine. In lower doses, it creates more of a body high, which is the pain relieving effect. Too much can make you close to comatose and stager as if you are drunk. I know many people who use cannabis for various reasons, with varied reports of success. Like many meds, you have to let it build up in your system slowly to prevent extreme high. Once you have some tolerance, then you shouldn't feel very high from it, no more than the side effects of many other medications. My concern is addiction. Those I know who have greater success with this medicine are not addicts. There is a tendency to abuse it, the same as any other med that causes euphoria and suppressed anxiety. Opiates and benzos are what I have in mind. I wouldn't suggest cannabis for an addict, but that is something you have to decide for yourself. If you think you can control it and it works for you, it may be worth it. I would definitely set up some accountability though. Have someone give it too you daily, don't just experiment on yourself. Also, remember it takes up to 2 hrs for the effects to hit you, so make sure your accountability knows that as well and doesn't keep dosing you every hour. It can't kill you from OD, so that is not a concern, but it can knock you out to the point it is hard to wake you up.  Please, be very careful, if you choose this route.

If it is legal in your state you just need to fill out an application and maybe get a certificate from your doctor. Them wait for approval.

I have read the oil works very well for Crohn's too. And of course seizures mentioned above.

i don't know if the oil that is now legal in several states help with pain or not because it doesn't contain thc, the ingredient that gets you high.

that kind of oil really helps seizures, especially in children.  i know for that reason they made the oil legal in iowa and soon nebraska.
so many families with children that have seizures were moving to colorado so they could get help for their kids
