back of leg

My 12 year old daughter started complaining yesterday about a shooting pain in the back of her leg from her knee to her ankle.  She said it almost feels like a charlie horse but it's been for 2 days now.  Please help I do not know what to do.

I would try to get her into see her family dr as soon as you can. they can see what is going on with her so she don't have to deal with this pain long. It could be anything and your not going to know unless she is checked out.
Hope it all works out.

Hi tspringer,

I, also, want to welcome you to the Pain Management Forum and let you know that we are glad that you have found the Pain Management Forum. As mummy3too said there are NO Doctors on this Forum. We are ALL CP (Chronic Pain) Patients that help each other thru our experience and expertise that we have gotten thru our own Pain experiences.

I'm so VERY sorry that your Daughter is having these terrible pains in the calf of her leg. If she has already tried stretching I would stop with the exercises until you can at least talk to her Pediatrician or PCP and see what he/she suggests.

I hope that you will keep us updated on what you find out. I wish the best for your Daughter as I have a 12 year old Granddaughter and I would be very concerned as you are if ANYTHING like this happened to her.

Good Luck, my Dear......Sherry

Welcome to the pain management forum!!  Please understand that no one here is a doctor...

I feel terrible your daughter is in so much pain.

My best suggestion is to call her doctor and have him/her evaluate the problem. There are many reasons her calf may be hurting her.

Is she an athlete? Could she have injured herself? A friend of mine has a daughter who had calf and shin pain and it turned out it was an injury to her foot.

Low levels of potassium or other minerals could be the cause.. (dehydration?)

It could also be muscle related.. A great stretch for that muscle is to stand on a step on your toes and lower and lift your heels. Of course if this causes more pain, stop immediately.

Please let us know how she is doing and keep us posted.

Good luck!!

Hi...a charlie horse can last a few days...so, I would deff mention it to her PCP...and see if stretching helps.....I have had a CH that pain lasted a week from it....so the residual pains can last.

I pray u find answers and ur DD is painfree soon
