Stenosis is a condition that occurs most often with old age. Car accidents and other trauma can cause it as well but this is less likely. It can be a mild narrowing and not cause symptoms, and take many years to get worse. On the other hand some people can get stenosis that is only present when the bend there neck or back certain ways.
It is hard to answer you question in much detail, but I suggest you do some more research. There are many different types of stenosis like neural forminal stenosis, then lateral recess stenosis and central canal stenosis. These can be caused by different things like herniated disks or bone spurs so worsening can by happen with these things worsening. Hope you find what you need and good luck!

I have severe lumbar stenosis & was informed by several drs & specialists that it is something I was probably born with, but generally it occurs more often with age. The onset of symptoms can come up slowly or there are days that it flares up VERY quickly without warning.
