I had similar symptoms and my lung was collapsed. It was spontaneous and was not caused by trauma. A chest x-ray would show whether or not a lung is collapsed - medical term is pneumothorax for collapsed lung.
I also have ribs that pop out of place because of hypermobility syndrome. Are you double jointed?
i had this and went to a chiropractor and my ribs were out of place, due to a pulling a muscle maybe that might help you.
Hello Be,
Welcome to the Pain Management Forum of MedHelp. You are so young to have pain when you are breathing. I am going to assume this is not an injury.
Gas can get trapped in your gastrointestinal tract and cause pain so that would be my first thought. Have you tried antacids?
Do not have any upper respiratory tract symptoms or have you had a virus or cold? Your symptoms are similar to those of a Pleurisy which refers to the inflammation (irritation, swelling, stickiness) of the pleura. Pleurisy is not a disease, but a symptom of another condition like a virus or bacterial infection.
You could have just irritated the rib cage's supporting or surrounding muscles if you laid in an unusual position or twisting or turning. Or you may have some inflammation in that area. However your shortness of breath should be of some concern. I would seek the advice of a physician to rule out any serious condition.
Best of luck to you. Please take care and let us know how you are doing. Peace, Tuck
