i am so sorry for your granddaughter i sit here with tears streaming down my face because i know what pain i am going through and i tell you now i would not wish it upon my worst enemy. Please be persistent in getting her relief for her pain, it is going to take a lot more than over the counter medication. I will be praying for you and her.

I am so sorry to hear that you granddaughter has pain from cellulitis. Sandee has offered you some great suggestions.

If her pain is not relieved with the suggestions Sandee offered please do not hesitate to contact her physician. The can and do prescribe stronger analgesics for children. If she were an adult the attending physician probably would have prescribed her with oral pain medications. In my opinion they often under treat pain in children.

I have an 8 year old granddaughter and I can related to your concern. Bless your heart grandma, see that your granddaughter is as comfortable as possible.

Treatment for children depends on their age and which part of the body is infected. An antibiotic is usually given intravenously. Facial cellulitis in young children requires immediate treatment and responds well to antibiotics.

Take care of the skin. Any measure that prevents injury to your skin will help to prevent cellulitis.
Elevate the affected leg or arm to reduce swelling.
Apply warm compresses to the affected area.
Use pain relievers as needed.
Also make sure she avoids touching possible sources of infection, such as ill family members and their belongings; raw fish, meat, or poultry; or soil, particularly when you have an area of broken skin.

having to see a child in pain is heart breaking so I know it is hard for you to sit back and do nothing but there really is little you do except make sure she follows the doctors orders and try and relieve her pain with Tylenol or Advil which ever the doctor recommends. Warm compresses will help with the pain and swelling too.
I hope she is feeling better very soon:)
