i am a 31 year old male with chronic pain, i have fractured vertebrea a number of hurniated disc spinal stenosis of my lumbar region, nueropathy and hip impingment syndrome. i dont have insurance so my only option is having to take narcotic pain medication but even that barely does anything at tly the dose i am on. i currently take oxycodone 15 mg 3 times a day. ive been struggling with this pain for a number of years but it has become so severe in the last 3 years that ive attempted suicide once. and i struggle every single night to get 2-3 hours of sleep. i have became so hopless for my life to get any better that i find my self thinking about suicide multiple times a day just in the hope that my pain would end. please is there any one out there that can help me?
Im sorry your feeling so down. Chronic pain is life altering. I can relate to chronic back pain, ive had it since 2006. I have had three surgeries, last one being a fusion of l-4,s-1. I recently herniated l-3. Have you tried other meds besides narcotics? Muscle relaxers, meds for nerve pain like lyrica or neurotin, antidepressants have a pain relieving quality as well as can help depression. Your PM doctor can prescribe all these meds. I have found that warm moist heat has helped me to sleep at night. Its for arthritis pain. I would give it a try, they are hotter then the normal heating pad. You can purchase them online from Amazon they are the cheapest ive found. My dad had chronic back pain as well and he loves it.
I hope you get some support on this pain management forum. There are some people who know more about this than I do. I also go to acupuncture twice a week and it helps a little. Right now I cannot take all the medications I used to take. Please talk to your doctor about feeling like you can no longer cope, if he dosent want to listen its time to find another PM doctor. Will they increase your pain meds? maybe that will help or try a different manufacturer if you are using a generic med. I know when I used the Fentanyl patch it made a huge difference when I tried another manufacturer's patch. It made a difference of lasting three days instead of two days. I hope some of this information is helpful, its terrible to live in constant pain.
Pain is temporary. It may last a minute, or an hour, or a day, or a year, but eventually it will subside and something else will take its place. If I quit, however, it lasts forever.
