do we want a community where we all help each other
do we want this site to be a community where we all help each other or do we want to have doctors describing symptoms and telling us to go and see the doctor?? I would prefer that at this particular site we keep it "pain management" not description of symptoms and then diagnosis by doctors. What do you guys think?
hi mary and don't give up. there are a few of us over at the chronic pain couch now wanting to gather. and some folks here too. let's work to get something going again mary. help me keep energy at these places and gather friends etc . hey there is more that we can do than this that is happening now let's imagine and brainstorm and post and do it!!!! why not....om yogadon
I'm all for it. I miss the support that used to be here. CP is 24/7 and is so misunderstood unless you live it. We all have good and bad days and knowing there's somewhere to vent and share ideas is so important. I've been battling a flare-up for a while, which has led to some depression and anxiety. I have a love/hate relationship with narcotics and am very often taking medication holidays and flushing meds when I feel like I'm becoming a slave to a bottle or clock ... which leaves me with more pain.
This will pass, I know. But in the past, I had several people here who really helped me through (and also on the substance abuse board even though I was dependent vs addicted, I learned so much!)
you may be one of those people "who really helped me through" now and new folks will need your energy and help. you are an "elder" member now! HA! and there is something that works sometimes for people on this forum and by my survey i am suggesting that it isn't doctors "telling" us stuff but it is We the people helping each other.
Maybe you can contact those "elders" you know and tell them what we are trying now to do with the forum. i can see us all in Vegas someday. Wheelchairs--oxygen---pumps--patches--pills---Pain Convention!~! huh? why not? Let's dream and then make it real for us because no one else will do it for us. we can do it c'mon you guys--just believe and post away--pain is our teacher and people have so much they could learn from us!!@ Normal "NORMAL" people.. Anyway Mary we need you so jump right in---om yogadon
I am wondering what might help most of us that we can do on a forum and then use in our challenging lives. Perhaps a new thread that specializes in one particular technique or practice---such as how you deal with the roller-coaster ride---the anxieties that come--with our meds. Calmative foods or teas or ?? Breathing and instructions for using it for pain relief (ask mid-wives and mothers about how well it works) is one i will start later today or tomorrow . It does work--with a little practice. Alright use your experience and imagination and if you like start one specialized place. A tool-kit of threads out of which maybe you can find one that improves your day!!!!
What could we lose by trying? Make it a good day today folks--or go down trying! Om yogadon shanti I hope it is ok that i copied this from the chronic pain couch for us here to try too. I think med-help ok'd it.
i could use some support here you guys---also what do you think about having a once a week (more or less) Live Forum where we all agree on a time a log in and have a talk Live! I think it could be very cool---whadda you folks think????? Om make it good with your thoughts om don
No don't quit Syrian I am still lurkin and I am in need of a serious boost! I just haven't been in a place where I am able to give much advice and motivation to people it has been a hard couple weeks for me both in my personal life and with my pain. So I haven't been posting or reading but I'm still here just not as active can I do hope to get back into the swing of it because it helps keep me sane! the support that you get from the forums is wonderful when there is people out there. I have been on several different sites and I have to say you are trying very hard but there's a lot of other people on other sites. I don't know but as soon as I get out of my slump I will be back to try to help and motivation others
send those other people to here motowngirl and we will so inspire them that everyone who is in pain (that's everybody--yep buddha says everyone is suffering) will come here and so will their friends and we can actually Grow something here. It Could Happen if we just try try try. OK get to work motowngirl----first two people then five then 20 50 1000 then the reality Show!!!! books sure oh yeah..,. ok so i am a little crazy. God it helps! allrighty then spread light om yogadon
That sounded like a challenge.... I accept, so how would you motivate what would you say or dol
What would these people have to look forward to?
How about a daily spiritual quote?
Start with ac quote and ask othersc to add one each day/hour.... Something you can tape to your bathroom mirror in the morning...
The individualizd request for healing prayers? Could post a request and ony responses should be healing prayers, no advice, no guidance, that would be a different thread.
Last bt not least we all need to vent so how about a vent subject four the day or the week, something like don't you hate when someone cuts you off on the freeway just to skow down in front of you... a random nonpain rant to distract
Now if you have triedaol this and it has failed then I am sorry!!! I just hate to see you givef up so easy... I mean one month! Comev on!!!!
Anyways just a few thoughts but I don't think I really understand whdat you were trying to do. Sorry:-)
I do want a group. I just don't feel I have much to give right now that's all that positive. I'm struggling with my pain being out of control and being back on oxycodone and oxycontin after working so hard to get off it. I was dealing with the pain until it caused my blood pressure to go completely out of control. I'm trying to be positive and it's just not happening for me. I read all the time but don't post much anymore. I know when I first joined here there seemed to be more hope and more interaction. I think now it's just more a Q&A with no real support. And I blame myself for lack of interaction as much as the other members who've jumped ship for whatever reasons.
you sound like me marycarmel---my BP also goes thru the roof with the pain and the only help i get for such pain is opiates (65 and tried it all believe me). So the poppy is what will help us. You and i need to learn to adjust and decide to have a good Attitude about taking it (god what a miracle to relieve out pain). Because take it we must. I have decided to just quit with the fantasy that i am going to QUIT. Don't need to taper!!!
You and i need to relax about it and take what we need for the pain so we can have a DAY we can almost enjoy!!! And when we need more as the pain worsens and the tolerance builds then we accept that scientific physiological fact and take more and thank god for the relief. No guilt! No cloud over us. Just the challenge of living with that constant craving and society's frown----we can be creative and live with this. Poppy People!!!!
hang in there marycarmel---and i know you aren there even if ya don't "Post-In". with light and love omhome
This is where I had my struggle!! I've educated myself and know about addiction versus dependence, but I so hate relying on taking something everyday. This time I'm working on at least accepting it for what it is at the moment. Winter is generally worse for me anyway. I'm not going to project out to next summer and will just wait and see what happens. If things go okay, maybe I'll be able to take a medication holiday and possibly lower my tolerance a bit. They did put me on nortriptyline and that seems to help quite a bit with the nerve pain. My new pain management doctor was surprised it wasn't tried before.
Thanks for the encouraging words. When I first joined this forum, there was a lot more of that ... supporting each other through the rough times. I do try distraction, breathing and I am hopeful someday they'll approve acupuncture. I'm astounded that they'll pay anything for narcotics but when I ask for something like that I'm denied. I also use a lot of other things to sort of bridge things, lidoderm patches, advil, and Voltaren gel.
I just need to get the anxiety over narcotics out of my head!
i wonder sometimes if they really want us to heal or what? Acupuncture has been proven to help so ??? Is anyone else ready to change the "theme" or get back to the original purpose---us helping each other? om
I have had a series of acupuncture shots to my stiff muscles in my back and neck. They are somewhat of a help, better than the drugs. Then they tried the cups treatment on me to help circulate the blood and I am not sure what that did but we moved on to the massage and that was GREAT. Wish I could afford that machine BUT when they went a little lower on my back where I had the surgeries, PAIN!!! Once I got them to focus on staying away from those areas, that massage is the best thing I have ever experienced!
I am seriously considering more of these treatments locally but I may have to pay out of pocket. A tough decision to make because I am not sure I can afford it. Don't know anywhere else that does a massage treatment but curious about feedback. Any recommendations?
does anyone else think dr. kokil is kinda hijacking this thread for some? purpose? the answers are too technical and are just gibberish to us normal sufferers who are looking for feedback from each other not something from a book!!! Anybody else? Omhome
