false NEGATIVE drug test results

I went last month for a drug test and when I went to the Drs. this month He flat out refused to give me my meds saying that my drug test came back negative for any of the meds that I was perscribed. I take my meds all the time Unless I know that I have to drive then I dont cause they make me loopy, and I told him that. But he still didnt want to hear it. I  have RSD and been on these meds for 3 years I have NO IDEA why they are not in my system. Im gonna end up going threw horrible withdrawl soon and Im scared to death.  Im on Methadone and Vicodin and He just Cut me off after one test comming back Negitive and I dont understand how it could. He called me a lyer and told me to never come back to his office. But there is no other Pain clinic in the area. WHAT WOULD CAUSE THE RESULTS TO COME BACK NEGITIVE when I TAKE THE MEDS????

I am a methadone patient and I just had a false neg. test and the nurse at my clinic told me that this has happened before ,there is a way that the methadone toxin can leave your body faster than normal ,and theres a test for it ,I forgot the tech. name for it but it does happen . What i am going to do is the next time i have a urin test I am going to get a 2nd test from somewear else .my nurse said the blood test for the condition she told me abt is abt $130.00 outta my pkt. so ill do that when all else fails.   (tell ur dr to call any toxicology or methadone clinic will confirm this)

No i did not know that. I dont know if he did that or not.. I know that first thing monday morning Im calling his office, cause im starting to go threw withdrawls and Im snapping at everyone. And I dont meen to. I feel like s**t is crawling on me and I cant even think. I know that this pain management dr better do something. Ive been off of it now since thursday so I know if they test me again it might not be there this time. One test and he cuts me off. I dont understand that. Like I said to you all before I take my meds everyday UNLESS I have to drive and thats not often, that I miss my meds. There is just no other Dr in the area that gives methadone. He is the ONLY pain management dr in the area. And when he told me he was putting me on meth 3 years ago I told him I really didnt want it. I looked it up on the internet, and it really scared the s**t out of me. But about a week or so after he perscribed it for me I ended up taking it cause the pain was sooo bad I couldnt deal with it. Ever since then I have been taking it, and my body is looking for it.  I NEVER before had to be drug tested so I have no idea why he would just bring that up all of the sudden, Not that I had anything to hide, If I thought for any reason that I would have failed the test I would never have taken it. I wouldnt have told the dr sure I have no problems giving you a urine sample. You see what im saying?? He wouldnt even give me anything for withdrawls cause he told me that it didnt show up on the test that there is no reason to give me something for withdrawls when im not taking my meds... YEAH OK. I DO TAKE THEM,.,,,But like you told me to do Im gonna talk to someone and find out what was tested for and let them know that there is a seperate test they need to do to check for meth.

DID HE DO A SEPARATE TEST FOR METHADONE?    IT HAS TO BE TESTED FOR SEPARATE, IT WILL NOT SHOW UP IN A REGULAR URINALYSIS FOR OPIATES. I KNOW THIS FOR A FACT.  I AM ON METHADONE FOR BACK PAIN AND WENT IN FOR A DRUG TEST AND IT DID NOT SHOW UP IN THE OPIATE CATAGORY; AND EVEN MY DR THAT PRESCRIBED IT DID NOT KNOW THIS.  IT IS A MAN MADE NARCOTIC AND THAT IS WHY IT HAS TO BE TESTED FOR IN A DIFFERANT WAY.  ASK IF YOUR DR KNOWS THAT.  YOU CAN ASK SOMEONE THAT WORKS IN A LAB (THATS HOW I FOUND OUT) TO BE SURE FOR YOURSELF, BUT I KNOW IT FOR A FACT.

I agree this is becoming more common. This happened to me long ago and I too never missed a dose, the lab can make mistakes no matter how much one tries to avoid it and it is the pt who pays.I urge you to call the Dr and ask for some help, if you did not sign a pain contract he has to help you by law for thirty days or it is pt abandonment. I consulted an attorney in Fl when I had this problem and this is what I was told.
Methadone is a serious drug and if you have been on it for three years and even if you missed some of your doses it would show on your test. I found another pain management that was willing to give me the benefit of the doubt and he took blood work and did decide to treat me based on that, so you should look quickly so maybe this is an option for you.
I don't wish your position on anyone it is horrible and I am so sorry. If I can help any further please let me know.

Hi Mr. Lucky!

I was thinking the same thing. More and more people are being cut off from treatment with no taper or medical support.
Its really scary when you are taking a narcotic regimine!

I really hope this starts happening less and less instead of more and more.

I see this happening more and more. I'd be afraid to get to a pain mgt. doc for this reason

Hi babydm,

And Welcome

Sorry you have had this awful experience with your DR calling you a liar and ordering you out of his office never to return.

I believe there is a post below talking about a false positive urine analiysis due to certain antibiotics. There may be some other useful information for you within the replies.

There could have possibly been a mistake at the lab which tested your urine.

Unfortunitly most DR's will not give a repeat test for a urine which comes up without the medication your supposed to be on. The reason they usually dont is because they believe a person can just take the medication so that a level in the urine will be present, although that is more difficult with long acting medications like methadone because the level is different than that of short acting meds like Vicoden that rise and fall depending on how they are prescribed.
Do you think he may be willing to taper you off?
I know he refuses to speak to you...But I suggest you call his office and ask. If he says not than say...Then youve decided to take on the liability and responsibility if something should happen to me during the withdrawls.
That should get his attention.
It's worth a shot.

If he still refuses to help ween you or give you medications that support withdrawls, You will want to find another DR as quickly as you can. Methadone withdrawls are very intense. They are said to be worse than other opioids.
Get into your Primary care asap and tell them what has happened. They may be willing to give you the supprt medicatons like clonodine for Blood pressure, immodium for stomach cramps and diahreia(spelling on that is sooo wrong)sleeping medication to help you  get as much rest as possible and sometimes valiuim or klonopin for anxiety and restless leg syndrom that happens during withdrawls.
If you cant find a DR to help you, consider going into a in patient Detox. You really should not do this without medical support.
Although opioid withdrawls are rarely fatal, there is always a chance that a dangerous situation can arise. Not to mention these are going to make you very ill.
I dont want to scare you. I know your already freaking out. Just want to make sure you know what your heading for so you can get the help and support you need before they start so you wont have to do this alone.

If you have a DR you have a really good relationship with and trust they may be willing to prescribe you something to carry you over until your able to find another PM so that ou dont have to suffer WD's.

Please let us know how things are going and if your okay.
You'll be in my thoughts

TMA
