fentanyl patch with occasional drug testing by MD

i am on the fentanyl 50 patch for ongoing hardware problems after a L4-S5 laminectomy with fusion in nov 2008.   i also take Lortabs for occasional breaththrough pain.  my doctor occasionally "drug tests" me but i am always too embarrassed to ask exactly what they test for.  i dont do any illicit drugs and do not take any drugs not prescribed to me.

my anxiety at this time is that i also have Klonopin prescribed to me by the same MD but only rarely take it.  in fact, 60 pills lasted me almost a year till i filled it a month ago due to some anxiety and family problems. i had taken 3 klonopin within 48 hours prior to my dr's appt and this time i was handed a urine cup for a "drug test".  now i am scared to death that my physician will assume that i am overusing my medication since i know klonopin has a long half life.  my prescription is labeled "take one tablet by mouth twice a day".  prior to the recent 3 that i had taken, none has been in my system for 2-3 weeks.

here's my concern since i have an appointment tomorrow....is my doctor going to justify "abuse" of my medication when i am sure to come up with fentanyl, possibly one Lortab and the Klonopin?  i am scared to death for her to think that of me. what may appear to be over use is just not true.  i even write the date on my patches with a sharpie so i can be assured to not over/undermedicate myself.

your not doing anything wrong hang in there and just never take a narcotic script even from an er and fill it as it would violate your contract

ty Totie.  yes, i was fine.  sometimes i get angry about all the abuse out there.  i know three people personally (my ex's family members) who either abuse their medication or sell them.  i am very careful with my medication, i dont ever want to be thought of or classified the same way as the abusers i know.

Hi there...

The key whenever you are given a urine test is to let them know what medication you have taken in the last week or so. So...as long as they know you have that prescription for Klonopin and that you took the medicine as directed...then it should be fine.

Next time...just tell them that you took the medicine and how many...it's as simple as that...

they drug test you to make sure it IS in your system and you are not selling them, you will be fine,bring you scripts with you as always to show u have one for the Klonapins.If you have pain med scripts and you show up and they test you and you have none in your system they will think you are selling them.In my experience anyhow.
