Sounds like I have the exact same problem, but on the right side. The MRI detected an inquinal mass that "could be" a hernia. But I am not showing a hernia in any other way. I am going to try to exercise more and maybe do acupuncture. (and obviously sit less)

Definetely insist on an MRI...
Also, get checked out for inguinal hernias...they can sometimes show unusual pain symptoms. I know my father had severe sitting pain (groin) with his recent inguinal hernia.

No. Without some idea of what they're looking for, I doubt any surgeon will touch you for fear of doing more harm than good. Have you seen a neurologist? It sounds like nerve pain, and the may be originating from something in your lower back. An MRI would be better at detecting something wrong in your spine area.
