Typing can cause all sorts of problems with your body.  But the main one would be that "carpul tunnel".  It is said that one needs to be sitting a certain way with your feet on floor, back straight, and wrist/hand pads.  When typing a paper like you mentioned for PhD...then you have to take more breaks.
