help i need a pain management doctor

I was injured august 16th, 2007. Put on workers comp soon after,  I have seen several different doctors. All the doctors sugested that i go to pain management. Workers comp refused to let me go so i hired a lawyer after 6mn, of fighting workers comp and it going no where. after  7 mn i was finally sent to pain management, received 1 spinal epadual injection and had a another one coming in 2 weeks but i ran into a problem, i had smoked pot and was tested positive. I only started smoking because i received no treatment for 9 months. That was the only way i could go to sleep at night, it would relaxed my mucles. Now i have been without any medicine since june, not sleeping, not eating I am depressed. I cry and screem at my husband and childern. No one will see me, no one will help me. Workers comp has sent out a letter to every pain managment in this area about me testing positive! My lawyer says that he is working on it. I am still waiting! Please help does anyone know of a pain management doctor who will see me?
I live in Otto, NC, although my injury occured in clarksville, GA. We had to move after my injury we could no longer afford to live where we were at.

Thank you for asking your friend about my problem. I do not have a PCP doctor. I have not had a PCP doctor since being in maine over 3 years ago. we just have not been able to afford  private health insurance. I do go for my regular check ups at the health department.
Thank you again for your help, and all the time you have taken with me.
Bless you

Hi,
I spoke with my friend and he said you will have trouble finding a Dr who will accept you into their practice or clinic therefore making it difficult to get your injections. He ask if you had a PCP that would be willing to refer you to  PM clinic for the injections or if your PCP is qualified he can preform the procedure.
Were you seeing a Dr before you were hurt? Have you asked workers comp to refer you to get the injections?

I am glad to help in any way I can:)
I will look into the questions you have asked and get back to you. I have a friend who is a PM Dr and though I do not see him as a pt he does answer questions for me. I am sure you can get your injections, I will be back a little later this evening.
I have some things to do and did not want to leave you hanging so I wanted to lt you know I am thinking about ways to help you:)

Thank you for the info. thank you for always taking the time to write back. I no that I do not personaly no you, but you really seem to care, thank you for being so kind.
Do you no if any pain management doctors just might make up some kind of a agreement with me, a promise to only use drugs that are perscriped by the treating doctor ? I no for a fact that my system is clean. I am willing to take any test to prove this. I had one epadual injection in my spine back in May, this did help, but only for a few days. I  would love to have a repeat injection. Can you help me find a way. Maybe advise me on a letter I could write. Any advise would be very much a blessing for me.

Methadone clinics are for those who are coming off of heroin and other drugs. I know this is not your case but methadone is used for pain management also. I do not know if they handle such cases but you could check in your area an see it is worth looking into.
I am sure the dealers and abusers have ways of beating the test and that is the problem and why we face such difficulties. The problem is so bad that the people who really need pain control are turned away because of the ones who beat the system and it is getting worse everyday.

I have never heard of a methadone clinic. I will give anything legal of course a try. I did not understand what all the Dr had to go though. I did not think that there were so many people going to PM Dr's  who used drugs or would share their meds with others. How do they pass the drug test that you take in the clinic ? I no that I made a HUGE MISTAKE !
At the time of my injury I was tested, nothing to worry about. If I would have been givin proper care in the beginning I would not be where I am today. I was just  trying to get some sleep at night. It took 9 long months to get any help, and stupied me had to self medicate. If I had only known.
Thank you for helping me understand why I am having such a hard time finding any help.

You need to look at your situation from a Dr's point of view.
You were released from treatment for smoking pot, well that leaves the impression on the Dr that your an illegal drug user and live a certain kind of lifestyle. This is in the Dr's mind and he knows from experience that this alone is a problem when treating a pt but add to it that you need strong narcotics for pain to the situation. When Dr's prescribe us narcotics they take on a huge responsibility. What will happen if you were arrested for having illegal drugs and the scripts he gave you were questioned, that then involves him and his practice, his financial stability to provide for his family and even his freedom. You see there are many things that are involved in a Dr writing you a prescription it is not as easy as filling out a piece of paper.
The law will begin to investigate him because you were caught with illegal drugs and that leaves him open to a lot of scrutiny.
Keep in mind this is just a scenario but one that is true in many cases. I know of a Dr who was a kind and compassionate and caring Dr and she was sued and brought up on charges because she helped someone in pain and the person gave her son some of the meds and he died so she is now fighting for her license and is being sued for all she worked for because the person she helped was known to use illicit drugs and the law and the DEA holds her responsible.
These kinds of cases are happening too often and Dr's will not let themselves be involved or even take a chance anymore because of it.
Think about it , they work and study for years and then have everything they worked for taken away because of someone who deceived them or used them.
I am not saying you did this or will, I am only pointing out why it is so hard for you to get help now. I will be brutally honest with you and tell you if you do get a Dr that will agree to help you it will be a very rare occurrence. The PM Dr's have so much to deal with now they are not going to add to it by taking on someone who yes made a mistake but used a illegal drug they simply can not afford too. They are risking everything they have to do so . If you know a Dr who can personally vouch for you that can help.
I am truly sorry you are in such a lose lose situation. The situation gets worse everyday and it will not get any better anytime soon.Have you looked into methadone clinics? Methadone is used for pain control and it may help you. They will tell you if your eligible.
I wish you luck and will help you all I can.

I smoked weed a little back in colleage ( 1986 ). Left the stuff alone after that.
I was introduced to weed again when I went home to Maine for christmas this past year ( 2007 ).  My bother in law smokes the stuff all the time. he said that the stuff would help me mellow out, relax the back and help me sleep. So I gave it a try, sure enough, it did help. He gave me a big baggie full of the stuff to take home. I smoked some weed at night before I would go to bed, it really did help. But what a mistake that was, I feel so stupied !!!!!!. I just can not beleive what a spot I put myself in.
Other than my bother in law I do not know of anyone who does drugs. And even if I did they would not be in my life, in my childs life. My daughter was always in bed asleep when I would smoke, she has no idea what her mommy did. I would be so ashamed. I was not being a very responsible parent,  I was being selfish, not thinking of all I had at stake.
I have tried to speak to the Dr, but he refused to see me. Have any ideas how I might get a break though with ?  I really am not a high risk, I have no convections, no record, not even a speeding ticket. I just made a bad choice, a very bad choice. Live and learn. now I have to find a Dr that will just see me, talk to me. Workers comp has sent every Pain Management doctor in this area a letter stating that I was discharged for failing a drug test. Workers comp is not helping me at all.  I really beleive that if I could just sit down and speak to a Dr that they would understand.
Thank you for your concern,
Sharalyn

I am wondering if you had smoked marijuana before this happened? The reason I ask is if not what made you decide to smoke then, was it offered to you by someone at the clinic?
I can't see where you would just pick it up and try it when you had no previous experience and if someone did offer it to you at the clinic then you should talk to the Dr and tell him the situation and that you were in so much pain your judgement was altered. This may help, it is worth talking to the Dr although you will have to name the person who gave it to you most likly.
I would like to say that illegal drugs is NOT the answer and though I think you have learned a valuable lesson here I have to say this is what makes it hard on pain Pt's to get help that they severely need. In the future try and make more responsible decisions and you will come out much better.
I really do hope you can find a Dr willing to take a chance on you and help with your pain and when you do make sure the people who are into illegal drugs are not in your life any longer. Actually that is a good thing to do now.
Good luck

Hi Sharalyn, Welcome to MedHelp. What a issue you have. I'm not aware of any pain management clinics in your area. Others will post that may be able to help you.

The problem is that where ever you go that record will follow you. Unfortunately pot is illegal rather we like it or not or rather we agree with the laws that govern it's possession and use. Most physicians view pot users as unable to street drug users and won't order pain medications for them. I am sorry that this has happened to you. You're paying a high price for an error in judgement.

It sounds as though you have been experiencing some withdrawal symptoms. However the worst should be over. As far as PMP I would simply be honest with the next PM, plead your case and make a promise to quit using and offer to take weekly drug testing.  You may get someone to agree to treat you under those conditions but than again you may not. I have not been in your situation.

Other members will post and offer suggestions and information. There is a wealth of knowledge here. Good luck to you. Hang in there and hopefully your attorney or another member can come up with something. Take Care, Tuck
