hernia surgey pain

i had hernia surgery 3 1/2 years ago. In recent days I have had a lot of discomfort in the area where the surgery was performed, left side inguinal. Should I be concerned?

Thanks
But it turns out I have diverticulitis in the sigmoid colon which is in the proximity of my prior hernia surgery. On antibiotics and hopefully will be better in a few days

Hi!
If you have pain at the site where you had hernia surgery two years back then please consult your doctor again. This could be due to recurrence of hernia, adherence of the bowel to the edge of the mesh, adherence of the bowel to the tacks or sutures, or surgical site adhesion. The other possibilities are nerve entrapment in between muscles or due to the tracks of muscles changing direction post surgery.
Your doctor can access the cause and treat it accordingly. Take care!
