Hello i have lived with knee pain for 15 years . i tore the meniscus in my left knee and didnt have the money to fix it . and was prescribed lortabs 260 a month and ended up being a pain pill addict . i went through rehab and realized that me being an addict affects alot of areas in my life like i cannot use any kind of opoide because it is too addicting . i searched for some kind of relief and the only thing that is out there is opiate based .so that meant that i had to take nsaids and that eventually led to my stomach bleeding . i got online and did some research on pain management and read about a new herb that was being experimented with and so i did some more research and found out that it worked on the same receptors as opiates but isnt as addictive and works as well or better than opiates for pain so i ordered some and took it in capsule form i took about 4 to 6 of them and i made the pain disappear for longer that opiates or nsaids and it didnt cause me to be inebriated like opiates . it had a kind of relaxing effect but didnt mess me up .i have not felt real reliefe untill i tried these herbs it really makes me mad when people judge new things that help people because they have no idea really .  people think that if it is not made in a lab and dispensed in the pharmacy then it dosent deserve to be given a chance . mabye people need to be more open minded before they judge

Hello Rdayton,

Welcome. You will find much on the wed regarding Kratom. Personally, no thank you.

Many countries are making this herb illegal. It has had some devastating side effects and has not been proven safe or effective.  I have read that it can reduce tolerance to opiates as well as potentiates them, not to mention being one of the few verified classes of addiction disruptor.

The DEA considers this a growing problem and not a solution or treatment for pain management. I'd run, not walk from this plant.

Peace,
~Tuck

Sounds like you've had a good experience with it, but, like with anything, people can react differently.  There have been reports that it can be addicting or cause a dependence.  Just like with any drug, natural or otherwise, you should know all the pros and cons before taking it.

I would have to agree with Tuck.  The little I've read and heard about Kratom would make me very wary of trying it.  From my understanding, it's not regulated and there have been problems with some of it (the full leaves I think but I'm not sure.)  I believe there has been several deaths and there has also been people that have said it's very addicting and quickly addicting.  I think if you're looking for something natural for pain relief, you should talk to your doctor or to a naturopath; someone that knows what they're doing.  There are some things that work, depending on the pain.  I know for early to moderate arthritis a lot of people have success with glucosamine chondroiton, but it needs to be taken for several months to see a result.  THere are lots of all natural things that do help and aren't harmful but many more can be very harmful, especially in conjunction with other medications, prescription and OTC.  Be very careful.  You can also talk to your pharmacist.  They are a really valuable resource.
