medication for break through pain

by rocketship, Jul 04, 2009 04:12PM
I'm trying to double check some information I have.  If you take tramadol for chronic pain management, say 100mg in the morning but then your doc gives you vicodin for break through pain is that safe?  My pharmacist didn't say anything about it not being safe but when I look it up online I see all these warnings...

Is there anyone who takes this combo?

Hi Rocketship,

If the same physican prescribed it for you that prescribed the tramadol and the pharmacist at the pharmacy (that you always go to) did not make a comment, I would follow my physician's orders and take the medication.

However if you are concerned it never hurts to pick up the phone and ask the pharmacist. At one time my PCP prescribed both for me. If we read all the warnings on the medications that we take (and I suggest that you do) it would scare all of us.

Hope this helps,
Tuck
