methadone detox

I took myself off of methadone,it's been about 6 or 7 days...PM doc lost license in April, had me on 200 mg meth a day, it worked, but everyone told me that was way too much even for the pain I have. So, had to start seeing PCP for my refills which they tapered down to160 mg/day. Then they sent me off to another PM doc who tapered me down to 120 mg/day but after the second appt.(day before yesterday) I basically told them to screw off. All I could see was the NP whom was very rude and told me she will never give me opiates (which work the best, believe me I've been going thru this for 19 yrs.of this after two car accidents) I've done about 5 rehab therapists, 5 chiropractors, facet injections and spinal blocks. I joined up with a new PCP this Wed., he first tried fioricet and told me to come back if it didn't work which I did today and he gave me the lowest mscontin they make. Oh, and I went to my hosp. yest. to see if I could detox from the methadone and my ins. said there were no beds open. Of course, they are probably full with people who use street drugs!!

I agree when you are really withdrawling go to the ER then and see if they will help you. That is alot of methadone to be on and I can't believe the dr had you on that much.
I am so sorry you have to go thru this. I know when I was withdrawling badly from morphine I went to the ER but I had no clue I was withdrawling at all I thought somethign was really wrong with me, they gave me some percs to take at home to help me thru the withdrawl, so I know they give you some meds that is a step down from what you was taking well that is what my ER did but I had a great ER when it happen. I was on the morphine and my doctor told me to stop so I had no clue I would go thru that cause I was only on it 2 weeks.
Hang in there and let us know how your doing.

I appreciate the response.  Methadone clinics here in Phoenix don't take any type of insurance at all which really stinks. I've been all over the internet. I suppose I will just have to go it just like all the other folks in my boat.

I am so sorry to hear about your journey with pain.  I have to agree that 200 mg of methadone is WAY out there.  Still, it's understandable how you reached that point given the amount of time you've had to deal with chronic pain.  I honestly can't think of anything else that will help that you haven't already done.

Since you've had such a major taper, your brain receptors are probably still shrieking at you and raising your pain levels far higher than they would be without opiate therapy.
It's going to a long, long taper before that pain spike backs off.

I am seriously worried that you are going to have some big medical problems very soon as you try this detox on your own.  120 mg is a huge jump to make even with mscontin on board.  Either you wait until you're seriously ill in withdrawal and go to the ER for detox (again) or head to an addict methodone clinic that will taper you slowly.  I realize you're a chronic pain patient and not a street addict, but if a methadone clinic is the only place you can do this safely then you need to go.  With that in mind, check out the addiction forum here at Med Help.  There are tons of folks there who are either going through what you are or have been through it and survived it.  They'll have more ideas about how to survive detox than most of us here on this forum.  God bless you my friend.  I can't begin to imagine what you're going through.
