thanks for the encouragement...I think that is the next step...I was online reading about the causes of pain in the gum line after novocaine and frankly it scared me because there are incidents of damage to the nerve caused by the novocain injection...an oral surgeon wold be able to tell that as well I am sure
Fillings that have gone bad can cause infection in the gum creating a great deal of pain. I'm wondering if the Dentist has discussed this with you? The x-rays will show the infection if one is present. I highly doubt that the shot of Novacaine caused the pain.
In my opinion, the Dentist should have gone over the possibilities of infection and treated you with antibiotic...Generally all Dentists do. Make an appt. with the Dentist doing the work. He will know what is going on with your teeth and gums.

Any type of infection will cause you to have pain. it is your body telling you something is wrong.
You really need to see an oral surgeon soon.
