Did your appendix rupture before it was removed? Do you have increased pain or nausea after you eat or when you have a bowel movement?  If so, I strongly agree with the above poster that adhesions may be the culprit.  Adhesions are scar tissue that forms as a result of any kind of inflammation.  That can come from infection or any other injury including surgery.  The material that leaks from a ruptured ovarian cyst can cause inflammation and adhesions, and certain a ruptured appendix will do the same.

The tragic thing about adhesions is that they generally don't show up on imaging studies, so the doctor must diagnose their presence based on the patient's symptoms.  Most surgeons (either general surgeons or OB/GYN surgeons) resist doing more surgery both to diagnose and take down adhesions since more surgery risks more adhesion formation.  It's certainly worth talking about the subject with your doctor.

Was the ovary with the cyst on the same side as your appendix or the opposite side?  The entire lower abdomen hurting could be caused by a number of things, so in addition to getting back to the gyn for a follow up pelvic ultrasound, I suggest you also get with your primary physician so he/she can do some probing to see if he can discover the source and also, they can order testing and refer to the specialist(s) they feel you should see, whether it be a GI specialist, a urologist or what have you.  One of the pains a person can have is adhesion pain caused by surgery- but you have pain all the way across the lower abdomen and in any event, all possibilities should be checked out!

Hi again Nikki,

If your pains are constant, you REALLY need to get in as quickly as you can to see your OB/GYN. Please don't hesitate!

After you have seen him/her please check back in and give us an update.

We're always here for you whether it's to listen because you need to vent or because you need more suggestions from someone who has been in your shoes before.

I, too, know how very painful the ovarian cysts are. I had a 5/1/2 lb. benign cyst removed with the ovary about 25 years ago. Then later had a hysterectomy. So, be sure that you take care of yourself!!!

Looking forward to your next post...Sherry

Hi Nikki,
I am sorry your in so much pain. I can't speculate as to why you having this pain as it could be any number of things. You really need to go see your Gynecologist and find out what is going on. It is really best to do this right way and not hesitate as it could be a problem that needs to be addressed right away.
I was diagnosed with PID ( Pelvis inflammatory disease) years ago and that caused me a great deal of pain. I also have ovarian cyst and I have pain in my lower abdominal area alot.
You can not try and diagnose this yourself as you need test and blood work done as soon as possible.
Please make an appointment as soon as you can and let us know how your doing.

Hi Nikki:  Go back to your gynecologist.  Let her know you're still in a lot of pain. At this point it could be a lot of things.  I'd think you'd need a full workup with labs and imaging.

Please keep posting.  I'm sure someone will come on later today.

(I'm just up late because I can't sleep due to pelvic pain-sound familiar?)

I did not have my ovary removed when i had an ovarian cyst. Just the csyt got removed. I have not been followed up with pelvic ultrasounds. All of my lower abdomen hurts constantly, nothing seems to help so far.

Did you have your ovary removed at the same time you had the cyst removed?  Have you been followed up with pelvic ultrasounds?  What part of your abdomen hurts?

I'm so sorry you're hurting like this.  As Sherry said, do go back to the gynecologist.  Ovarian cysts can really hurt and especially if they "pop:.  I know that one first hand.

Just one question:  Is your pain in the upper or lower abdomen.  Any surgery can lead to adhesions.  And trust me, those can really hurt as well.  I desperately hope that's not your problem.

HI Nikki,

The first thing that you need to do is GO TO YOUR OB/GYN. Don't play around with this since you have already had an ovarian cyst. It could be ANY number of things including endometriosis, another cyst or numerous other things that your Dr. can diagnosis for you.

I'm just curious do these pains occur only when you have your period or are they constant?

Don't think the worst, just check it out. I'm sure everything will turn out fine and your Dr.can help you.

I'm sure that other people on here will be posting also and may have som other ideas of what may be causing your pain.

Please post back and let us know what happens... Sherry
