Hi Lovecookin,

I'm glad that you took the time to post your question. Congrats on your upcoming motherhood.

I've learned much about this subject thanks to Jaded and the web searching that I have done based on her comments and concerns. What I thought was next to impossible I have found is far from it. Only a physician can suggest medications for pain while pregnant.

Managing chronic pain during pregnancy can be a challenge. It will take a very educated physician that is familiar with medications and their effects on the fetus. Just as importantly he/she will also have to be comfortable prescribing more than acetaminophen during this period of your life. It can be done fairly successfully as Jaded can attest.

You've obtained some good information. I encourage you to seek out a PMP or even a OB/GYN that is experienced in manging chronic pain during pregnancy. I am not sure that all of them treat pain in expectant mothers. Don't believe that you have to live with unmanaged pain.

Please let us know how you are doing.  I wish you and your expectant baby the very best.

Take Care,
~Tuck

Your doctor will decide what medications are indicated for your particular circumstance.  He/she might also want to refer you to a pain management specialist and/or a high risk maternal/fetal medicine specialist.

Good luck!  Pregnancy sure doesn't make either condition better, nor does raising children!  Talk about headaches!

Well, it really depends.  If you are asking about something OTC, the only one I know that doctor's recommend is tylenol/acetomenophen.
There are stronger medications available by prescription and they are not all harmful.  The best thing to do is to talk to your doctor about it and see what they can offer you.  A maternal/fetal medicine specialist is usually a good one to try.
Have been seeing anyone for your back and migraines?  Do you currently have an OB?  have you been on pain medication in the past?  Those are all important things to know.
I have a link to information in my journal that you can find by clicking on my name here and going to my profile then to journal entries.
I'm not a doctor, though, I am only a pregnant woman who deals with Chronic pain, myself.
