suboxone vs norco

Hi I was on Norco, Dilaudid, and Kadian for about 2 years, I never abused my medication-i was taking it for a pinched nerve in my neck. I didn't want to be on opiates anymore due to stomach and constipation problems.  I took Suboxone for about 1.5 and got off-I did have withdrawls but I took a few days off of work and I managed.  On and off I have had pain in my back and my neck and resorted to taking a few Norcos a day-now I find I am going through some withdrawls if I dont take it-I have been trying to cut down by taking half tablets.  I still have about 20 8 mg Suboxone-sometimes I get off of the Norco and take slivers of it to detox.  Can you tell me the best way to get off of the Norco, should I do it with Suboxone again or just taper with that-I also have some Robaxin and some Ativan-I like the Robaxin but I don't really like to take the Ativan-they are .5 mg.

Hello Marina,

Are you being followed by a physician? They are the best at assisting you with withdrawal and detox. You are not taking very much at all. I assume it is prescribed for you and you only take it for sporadically for pain.

Therefore your constipation should not be an issue. If you have pain and take Norco PRN why are you uncomfortable with this? Pain is pain and no one should have to be miserable because they are fearful of constipation (there are ways to control that) and stigma. Please don't think that I am advocating narcotics when they are not needed, just the opposite.  But I hate to see any one in needless uncontrolled pain as it serves no purpose once the diagnosing has been completed.

I hope you are successful in your goals. You might also want to post on the Substance Abuse forum as they are better at responding to w/d and detox. Based on your post I don't think you have abuse issues. Please know that you are always welcome here. We will look forward to your updates and how you are doing.

Take Care,
Tuck

Hi Marina:

You have detoxed once off the Norco's so it should really be the same process again. Since you're only taking a few Norco's a day, the w/d's shouldn't be bad, just uncomfortable. I really don't think it is a good idea to mix drugs when detoxing. You really should call your Doctor, they are the best qualified to help you. They may also give you some great advise on stopping the Norco's.
Please take care,
