tramadol withdrawl

I have tapered off of tramadol and am on day 20 without any in my system. My dr. put me on clonidine 0.1 2x/day and zanaflex .4 (2) 3x/day. I have been on this plan for about 7 weeks. I was on tramadol for 2 years. I have fibromyalgia.
I am in incredible pain throughout my entire body. I have terrible restless leg. I am sleeping about 3 hours a night, due to the pain load. I am desperately trying to cut back on the clonidine and zanaflex and I am experiencing terrible w/d symptoms. (heart racing, anxiety, sweating, pain, nausea, etc.) Could I be still having w/d from the tramadol or is it the other meds causing it? Did I just give up one addictive drug for 2 others? I am so tired of this continuous roller-coaster of chronic pain, meds, w/d's, pain...
The dr has also put me on Cymbalta, it has been 7 weeks. It doesn't seem to be doing very much. Please help me in anyway possible. I just need answers to this horrible situation.

Welcome to the Pain Mangement Forum. I am glad that you found us on MedHelp.

We do have other Forums that may be helpful as JHuxlet suggested but you are always welcome here. I am guessing that you are experiencing some linger withdrawal symptoms in addition to the Fibro pain.

Zanaflex is used for management of spasticity. I gather that the Clonidine is being prescribed to help you with the w/d symptoms. Neither are great for pain managment according to my research. Are they not treating your Fibro pain?

Are you in Pain Mangement and being followed by a PMP? If not I suggest that you request a referral to a good PM Clinic. No one should have to tolerate uncontrolled pain 24/7.

I hope you will keep us posted on how you are doing. Hang in there. We are here to support you. Take care and I would call your physician and inform him/her of your increased pain level. Hope to hear from you again soon.

Peace,
Tuck

Hi

Sorry to hear you are having a rubbish time. I have been on Tramadol for nearly3 years now. I have done some research regarding withdrawal as I am aware my body is dependant on it. If you search 'emily posts tramadol withdrawal and recovery room' in this site you will find a forum with lots of people discussing thier withdrawal experiances. It seems to be a mix of people who have been prescribed it and either used it as they were supposed to or have abused it. Either way most of the people on there seem to be sympathetic and understanding.

From the stuff I have read on there it seems most people suffer from w/d's for about 7-10 days with some symptoms lasting up to 30 days, it seemed like the longer and slower the taper the less harsh symptoms where. But I only scan read some of the posts. Otherwise try re-posting in the substance abuse forum.

Hope you feel better soon
J.
