tramadol

I have a very high tolerance when it comes to medication. I have a pinch nerve on my left shoulder (going to get it Xray to see what it really is), which only gets aggravated when I'm stress or overwork it in the gym. My Dr has tried Flexeril,  Skelaxin, 500 mg of naproxen and it hasn't work. Now she prescribe tramadol. I have read bad things about it and its side effects. Everything is dated from a few years ago, so I would like update from anyone that is taking it. I was prescribed 50mg/4 times a day as needed. I have read that it causes drowiness but people state that it actually gives them energy (I have insomnia- also on my 3th medication because Ambien, Lunesta didn't work. Now on Tranzodone). I am not weening of my wellburtin from my depression, which has subside. (150 mg twice a day- now at 150 mg once day) and I also take Xanax as needed for my anxiety/panic attack. (I was going through many financial problems after my divorce and had 3 surgery within 18 months. So my life had made a drastic change, so just getting back into normalcy. If anyone can valid the side of effects of Tramadol (does it cause addiction, weight lose, is it good for chronic pain, cause dizziness or anything else. I would appreciate Any and ALL feedback. Thank you!

I also wouldn't be too concerned with withdrawal unless you're taking it every day for weeks, as it's much less potent than things like oxy or hydrocodone.  As far as weight loss I wouldn't expect that at all.  From my experience it gives you a bit of the munchies so you should be fine.

Be careful when taking 3 cns depressants concurrently.  That's a fairly high dose of tramadol and even though it's a fairly weak painkiller, it could still cause problems if you're taking a moderate to high dose of Xanax as well.  Just be smart about it.  See how they affect you, and if any one or two don't make you overly drowsy, adding the third should be fine.

Yeah I wouldn't take the tramadol! To me the side effects coming off of it is worse than any drug combine! It works great! But it's not worth the coming off of it! And that's from someone who only took approx 2-4 a day

Thank you, I did read up on it and everything you stated was correct. I've been on for a week and "knock on wood" I didn't have any side effect. The pain minimize but I can still feel a little bit. My main concern was many people became addict to the drug and I was worried about but so far I was prescribe 4 50mg a day but I have only needed to take 2 a day. And luckily it did not affect my sleep, so my tranzodone is working great. My other concern is that people was experience drastic weight lost and I don't need to lose weight so I was trying to see if anyone out there are still experiencing that. Again thanks for your input, I truly appreciate it.

Hi!
Yes, Tramadol is good for chronic pain. It has side effects like any other drug and these include nausea, vomiting, anxiety, drowsiness, hallucinations, dizziness, rash etc. Seizures is a serious side effect. You can get information about this on sites like drugs.com, rxlist.com, medline plus etc. However, the drug may or may not cause any side effect in your case. So, gathering too much information on the side effects may also have a rebound effect. It is however, good to be knowledgeable about what to expect. Take care!
