what can we do about pharmacy mistakes????????????

I have been on pain meds for a while and been filling my rx at walgreens for years.Past December i had to switch pharmacy do to my insurance change.Around that time i had aptt whit my doctor and was told that they will call to my new pharmacy for my refill.About 5 min after i left my doc i recive call from my doc office telling me that i will not be given any more meds cause i have went to diferent doctor .I was shocked!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I went strait to my old ph that had transfer my meds and find out "my other"doc name. After doing some "investigation" the next day i went to that doc office and find out that he is a children  doc and i`m not a patient there  suprice suprice!!!!Thank god at the same time my doc did some "investigation"on her own  and i got my meds back.To my suprice in  February i got another isue at Dillons  my new pharmacy.I was given 30 pills of hydro but my rx should be for 60.I went back and talk to the pharmacy menager who treated me very very bad needles to say they called my doc and my meds were taken away from me again.I was given diferent meds and went back to Dillons to get them.On the menager request i was given my medication and the tray they use to count the meds and was told to recount them my self!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!I have never!!! been treadet that bad,i have told them that they can recount the meds at front of me and i will watch.OMG!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!the medication was counted twice previously and as i was watching the lady count it again i could not belive it  there was 180 pills and my rx called for 90!!!!!!!!!!!!!All i wanted is apology from the menager  but till this day i have not heard from her.Why we as a patients should suffer for pharmacys mistakes<should we all be quiet and let pharmacys do what ever they want in fear we will be left whit out meds and in pain???!!!

Hello and Welcome to MedHelp's Pain Management Forum. What you went through should never happen to anyone!! I am so sorry.

I am not familiar with Dillions.... and from your experience I hope I never am! This is shameless behavior by ppl that should be medical professionals. I assume you have no choice but to utilize there service. I hope these issues are not representative of all their pharmacies.

As suggested above I would report this to their company headquarters. I would do so by phone, e-mail and a written letter. Each form of communication should note the other correspondence. I would also send a copy of the e-mail and the letter to your PMP.

It's also important to notify your insurance carrier. If this is connected to employment, the Human Resources Manager should also be made aware of the poor Customer Service you experienced.

One should not have to  "be quiet"  just because we require pain medications. We should never be treated like second class citizens because we have a disease, Chronic Pain.  Addicts and Abusers have given us a bad name and placed our every move microscope.

What I will say for the Pharmacist is that they too are under great scrutiny.  If the opiate count is "off" it raises huge red flags. It would probably mean a lengthy investigation, discipline and maybe the loss of some one's licenses. I assume some one made a mistake and you are paying for it.

I hope you can find a solution to this. Please keep in touch and let us know how this concludes.

Take Care,
~Tuck

My sister actually used to work in a Walgreen's pharmacy. She told me that most of the pharmacists (she was only a technician) were real jerks. Although, to be fair, several of the stores she worked for had been robbed for oxycotin and other such drugs. And pharmacists are the front line for that; hard to have a sense of humor and knife point. However, Walgreen's is a company. They want customers and know how important relations are with them. So, if you want an apology or for someone to look harder into what they're doing at your particular store, you can report that store to the corporate manager above the store manager. The website should have the number for you.
