what do I do when doctors will not perscribed pain medicines ?

I have Cronic backpain in my lower back. I have never had much problems with my back untill just a few years back when I guess all the busywork and carwashing when I was younger caught up with me.  Someone told me that you don't know what its like untill it happens to you. They were right living with constant pain is rough. I went to my doctor I was exrayed and diagnosed with degereration in the lower back and bone spurs, I start physiotherepy at the end of February. I was perscribed recently arthrotec 75 a antinflamitory. This does relief some of my stiffness, unfortnatly not all the pain. The doctors in my town will not percribe pain medications. I don't know what I can do. I can't seem to get proper help. Anyone whom wants to help email me at ***@**** . Thanks

If you have degeneration of the discs or disc disease and nothing can be done surgically there must be a doctor that will manage your pain. There have to be other people who live where you live who are in need of help to manage chronic pain. Please do a search for doctors, MD's or Internists who deal with chronic pain.
Something doesn't sound right here. Using anything other than what a doctor is prescribing is not only wrong but it's so unsafe for you so please DO NOT go that route.

The police should have no decision on what form of treatment you receive. I think maybe your doctor may be just telling you that the police are forbidding him from treating you.
Find a new doctor soon as possible!

thanks guys, I live in Canada , in northern ontairo . We actually don't have pain management clinics, and doctors have been advised from police not to prescribe any narcotic pain medication. I should try to find a better doctor,  unfortunatly my town has a great shortage of medical professionals, and my family doctor is whom I deal with. I am 34 years young.  Hopefully somehow I can find a solution. My username at gmail to talk to me. Thanks

Hello Fishinmagician,

Welcome to the Pain Mangement Forum of MedHelp. I am glad that you found us and took the time to post. I am however sorry that you have unmanaged pain.

I don't know in which state you reside. Do you have PMP (pain management physician) or PM Clinics? Do they prescribe narcotic and treatments for chronic pain or are prescriptions the responsibility of your PCP?

If you state has PMP than ask for a referral. If your state does not than I agree with Seano, find a new physician. It is generally true that the younger you are the least likely a physician will prescribe narcotics. Of course this is not always true and much depends on the diagnosis.

You may also want to request more definitive scans than an X-ray. An MRI will provide more detailed imaging.

As you can see e-mails do not show up on MedHelps site. All communication should be posted on this board. Best of luck to you and please let us know how you are doing. We'll look forward to your updates.

Take Care,
Tuck

The simple answer is to find a doctor that WILL help you. It may be difficult, but not impossible. I'd start with a search of pain management, and physical medicine and rehailitation doctors in your area.
