what do I have

The doctors can't seem to agree on what I have or how to help me. They say I have sarcoidosis, but they don't think it is causing the chronic severe, joint pain I have. I have intermittent, severe pain in all joints and cramping of the hands and feet. I have general malaise and headaches. They say I have osteoarthritis and degenerative disc disease, but aren't sure it's causing this much pain. I have to watch my calcium intake or I form kidney stones, and I have excess uric acid in the urine. They've done every blood test under the sun. Are they missing something? The NSAIDS aren't helping much (2400 mg daily of Tolectin). What kind of doctor do I need to see?

Thank you

Hello Jonny:

Your story sounds all too familiar too me. I too have suffered the way you have been with the muscle nad joint pain. I have had all the tests to go along with it. I am batteling a life long illness but what I am suffering from shouldn't cause the constant muscle and joint pain.

I would recommend that you keep up the search for answers as I have. Meanwhile I am on a regiment of heavy pain medication that keeps me at a level of comfort without making me a zombie.

Jolly had a great idea of finding a really good Pain Management Specialist. I know they exsist but are hard to come by. A Rheumatologist wouldn't be a bad idea either.

Please take care and good luck with it all. Liek Tuck said, we are here is you need us.

Hello Johnny,

Welcome to our Pain Management Forum at MedHelp. I am sorry to hear about all the pain you are experiencing. We all know how pain can disrupt our lives.

I doubt I can tell you what you have when so many other physicians have failed. So many things come to mind that I am confident they have ruled out. So do you have fibromyalgia in addition to all the other diagnosis's? I think it bears some consideration.

Jollyman offers a good suggestion. A good PMP will at least offer you some pain management. Sometimes that is all we can hope for when physicians fail to provide us with an explanation.

But don't give up in your search for answers. I would consult with a well known and respected rheumatologist. Sometimes it takes repeating the tests and a look outside the box to come up with the cause of our pain. Be sure and tell your physicians all your symptoms. Writing them down can be useful. And sometimes something that we think is not meaningful will help pull the pieces together.

Please keep in touch and let us know how you are doing. I will look forward to your updates with interest. Hang in there. We will support you in any way we can. good luck and take care, Tuck
