6yr old sexual curiosity??

I got a call from school telling me that my six year old son (who from the studies and testing they have done on him, is like a year behind the other children) had asked a boy in class to show him his butt. The child told his mom that my son said if he didnt show him, that he wouldnt be his friend anymore. Then, I received another phone call advising that this also happened with another child. My son says he doesnt know why he did it, that he just wondered what the others looked like. This is not a problem I have ever had in my home (I have a 9yr old daughter and 3 yr old son). We provide our children with a good home, censored as much as possible, etc. The school actually suspended my son for three days (he's in Kindergarten) and now they will have a teacher's aide in the classroom to watch him at all times!! I feel like I am accused of raising a future *********! Everything I read says this curiosity is normal for his age, especially given his maturity level. This is all that happened. My son is not aggressive and there was no touching of any kind. But the school said because he said he wouldnt be friends anymore, that it is considered sexual harrassment.  Is my son not normal??

Holy smokes! That’s ridiculous! A kindergartener? With no history of any other misconduct? This is beyond extreme in my opinion. I am an elementary school teacher and a mother of a kindergartener. Kids say a whoooooooole lot that is shocking, inappropriate, alarming etc.... while I do believe it should be addressed, referring to a child as a sexually harassing someone  at 5 years old is ridiculous! Kids at that age are very curious, sexually curious and I believe as adults we often times perverse acts because of our sexual maturity. A child does not have the same maturity and should not be treated as though he does. Now to have him watched in class? These are very strong consequences in my opinion and a very strong reaction. This makes me angry and sad. It must be addressed but not this way. He’s a child for heavens sake. Can we talk to him, and guide him properly and not turn this into a sexual shaming moment.

I have 3 sons, my oldest is in kindergarten. He is in the same boat as ur son. Its ridiculous how they call that sexual harrassment, anyone who has worked with young children should automatically know they are very curious! So asking another boy to see his butt isn't a bad thing. As long as there's no touching, I don't see why blow it out of proportion. Kids are kids no matter what u do. Ur son is curious that's all. I wouldn't worry about it too much. He will grow out of it. The jerks at the schools are just uneducated idiots.

see, that is exactly how my husband and I feel too! we in no way approve of what my son did, but I feel like the way the school is handling it is so much more traumatizing than anything. Everything I have read says you are not supposed to make a big deal out of it, yet they expelled him for three days, now they have a teacher's aide who is going to watch his every move from the minute the bus drops him off to the minute he leaves!! and the bus driver asked my daughter if she is supposed to move my son's seat on the bus?! He's never had any problems on the bus or at school as far as inappropriate behavior. His biggest school issue was that he didnt catch onto his ABC's as fast as they thought he should.  I really think that the one mother got all crazy over it, made a huge deal about it like it was the worst thing that could ever possibly happen, threatened the school w/child protective services and the school got scared.. But they have me here all week feeling like my son is some demon child..

Oh for crying out loud.  Sexual harrassment?  I think we've all completely taken leave of our senses.

The teacher should tell the boys keep your pants on,  don't be showing your butts to other kids,  and leave it at that after telling the parents.

I just can't believe the ways we traumatize our children these days in the schools.

Yes, I did ask him and he said no one has ever touched him or anything. He told me last night that he was wondering if they were the same as him. I have other children and this has never been an issue. I can change my younger son's diaper all day in front of my six year old and he doesnt bat an eyelash. My six year old doesnt seem obsessed w/himself. I have never caught him touching himself, he doesnt talk about weird stuff. No obsessive behavior of any sort. But now I am scared that since the school is in an uproar over it, that it will affect him, he will feel like he's different, or not normal, like an outcast.

Have you asked your son if someone has touched him?
