My 12-year old daughter told her stepfather to "shut" up at dinner last night. I told her that it was wrong, explained why and she apologized to him. I took her cell phone away and returned it around 6 pm tonight. My husband thinks I did not take the phone away for a long enough time period. How do I know what the proper punishment and the length of time is, when she misbehaves? Did the punishment I gave fit the crime?
