Son wets himself

Why is my 8 year old son still wetting himself ?  My wife his mom passed away two years ago. A little after that he started wetting himself. I have tried everything rewards, punishment, he has even been in therapy for a year and a half. He does not wet himself in school and it is very rare for him to go at night while he is sleeping. I don't think its medical and the doctors agree. He is wetting himself about 3 to 4 times a week. What can I do? I need help.

Jim,  I went to your profile and it's heartbreaking.

What do you do when he wets himself?  It sounds like it must be at home,  during the day since he doesn't do this at night or in school.

Have you structured it so he just matter-of-factly changes his clothing?  I think that's probably the best near term solution.

Best wishes with your family.  This must be  so hard.

I am sorry to hear about his mothers passing. have you try to limit his intake of liquid at night before he goes to bed like nothing an hour before bed? dont punish him for that..every body go through something in life and we too as grow ups do odd things too we cant explain..it only been two years..he will be fine just try to be a little more understanding,  have you taken hin to his mother grave to put flowers? mothers day is comming up..maybe that will help him...because he miss his mother...

I am so sorry  about his moms passing, it probably is the reason and he may need some help to get through it ,if he doesnt do this at school I would say that he is upset at home . What about exercise and outside activities, does he play basket ball, soccer or anything after school activity, punishment is not the answer, time will be , patience from you may help him ...good luck

To offer insite frum sumone on the other side.... Daddy got divorce and later Grandparentz died an both waz very tragic -

So the wetting for me waz used to be kinda theraputic, it waz to me the act of releasing a huge emotional burden i koodnt get rid of, but took sum solidation in the fact i kood feel a heavy burden in the bladder, an wen i let run out into my pantz i imagined if only it waz the emotional burden, an yet the slow an full release of wetting my clothez made me feel az tho i had sum releif....

There waz nothing wrong with me, and wetting did go away eventually, but maybe u kood shorten the whole thing by just sitting down to haz an emotional talk??

i know that cuz after being dry for several yearz, immediately after Grandmom died i wet the bed, an just kept peeing my pantz non-stop, i haz less emotional control cuz of Autism, so it waz worse for me....

To look back i can see how the sensation felt expressed a feeling i reely wanted to feel deep inside, i just wanted to get all the pain out, if only it waz az easy az wetting the pantz, perhapz maybe, it mite be that way....

In other cultures urine iz used for therapeutic thingz too, so that may simply be wat it iz; i wood suggest finding a way to get to the emotional side of it; only based on my own experience i wood say that it may only be an act of sumthing physical that can be understood, trying to express the need to release an intangible burden, that iz much harder to let go of.

Be Luving and Karing and get him all the help he needz, doctorz or conseling; make sur it doesnt turn into another burden in his life, that causes him even mor hurt an shame =,(

Take Kare of the problum immediately!!!!  And do ur Best to rebuild him emotionally, everyone that livez long enuf haz to deal with loss eventually; like it or not Everyone HAZ to move on, itz the Healthy thing to do, so get him sum good counseling and be very supportive to him....

Encourage him in the correct behaviorz, but dont punish the bad onez, just keep encouraging him, be a Good Coach =)  He shood hop rite back on track, just fix the problum immediately and Never ignor that kind of problum, it kan spirawl out of control if not resolved early....

hope that helpz =)
