Whinning 6 year old

Whinning 6 year old

I have a six year old girl, and for some reason which I cannot figure out, she starts to cry every time that I begin to tell her anything, she seems to automatically think she is in trouble no matter what. I pay close attention to my tone and facial expressions and nothing seems to work. She also constantly whines when asking for anything. This behavior just started about 8 or 9 months ago, and I have tried to explain to her that the whining will not get her what she wants and that I will talk to her when she is done whining, I have asked her why she does it, and all I get is a major upset adn an "I don't know." I don't know what else to try, but this whining has to stop. Please help!?!?!

My daughter is six too--let me know if you find out what works.  My daughter has begun whining as well.  I sympathize with you.  Maybe they learn it at school--regardless--it drives me nuts.

I make my daughter repeat her request until I detect no whining.  She still whines--but it is a process.  I'm hoping that it will annoy her enough so that one day she will just quit on her own.

It never hurts to be hopeful--am I right?

Good luck.

Speaking of school.  Could it be pressure from school?  Being good there?  Getting up early/not enough sleep.  Just the fact of being tired?

My daughter whined and I did the same in explaining that she should go and settle down and when she could tell/ask me what it was in a normal tone I would be happy to listen. She was then to come back to me and talk but she wasn't to stand there and bug me until I got angry because that wasn't going to help and that would pretty much merit my answer being no just for the fact of her whining.

Mine was pretty good at weighing it out if she knew the punishment before hand.  Didn't mean she didn't mess up but at least it wasn't a surprise to her when something was taken away or she got a "no".  I would tell her "You knew this would happen"  she would usually nod as she stomped to her room.  lol
