focus and forgets

my son is in the 6th grade and is not doing well in school.  Not that this is new.  But, he isn't very focused and the teachers say he doesn't pay attention in class.  they have a focus sheet for all the kids, and they have to fill it out every day on what they did in class and if they have homework.  Mind half the kids in junior high don't even know that this paper is graded and is worth 7 percent of their grade.  He doesn't fill it out very well and doesn't even write complete sentences.  He is very athletic  but anything where he has to sit and pay attention for any amount of time, he goes into his own world.  I of course would love to blame his teachers as they are not teaching, they are having these kids grade their own work.  I would like to be on their side but there is just no give,  maybe I should just home school and pray for the best
