Is it normal for 6yr olds to still have tantrums on a daily basis?

She is easily frustrated..At school she is a complete angel, but when she comes home you can count on all @#*! breaking loose. It can be over the simplest of things like not having the snack she wants. I don't give into her and she has to go to her room till she can regain her self control. I have seen progress in the duration of the tantrums..at least they are shorter. I also know that she can keep control if she wants. I grounded her for 2 days from the computer and her neighborhood friends and she was sweet as sweet can be,

I think your child might be suffering from anxiety.  For more information, google the term "childhood anxiety" or something similar.  Often children who suffer from anxiety are able to use every ounce of strength they have to "hold it together" while at school (or some other social event), but when they reach the safety and security of their own home, all @#"! breaks loose.  I expect this is what you are having to deal with after school (been there - so I know it is not fun).

If you feel anxiety might be the issue, please seek help from your family physician for assistance and advice in how "to lessen her fears/anxiety".  This is the only thing that works.  I did notice that the duration of the tantrums are getting shorter; this could be due to the fact she is starting to feel a little bit more comfortable at school (often happens during this time of the school year), but be aware, a new situation in the fall could escalate the tantrums again.  Let us know what you think ..
