STEP PARENT

I have an eight year old son and a thirteen year old daughter. I recently married ( first time in their lives). My 8 year old has done great but my 13 year old daughter is not. She is so mean to my husband. She adored him while we were dating but as soon as we married she turned. She is disrespectful to him. What is some way of helping her to adjust to having him in our lives?

Perhaps it's because you married him. (And/or live with him now) and usually kids that are at least 11 don't like new stepparent(s). (As a child, my mother remarried when I was 14, I wasn't very nice to the stepfather either.)

Is she jealous? Are you starting to give more time to your new husband rather than her? This might be what's going on, or it may be the new change of having a new person living with her.

It can be awkward for teens, when they had a single mother, and all of a sudden this guy comes in and starts to live in the house as them.

Just know, that this is typical behavior for preteen/teen kids when these kinds of things happen.
