thumb suckling in handicap

my child 20 years with micrcephaly ,mental and physical retardation ///only for the last 5 years start to use thumb for suckling and too much wetting herself with saliva,even her thumb become distorted///i tried to wrap with gloves for one month//no use as she is pulling it....if u can help //thanks

What I did for my daughter (she was a baby 16 month old), I did mitains without thumb and to make sure she was not able to take them off I tied them to her wrist.  I did that for about two week during the day and for about 6 months during the night.  At first she was not very impress by it but today at the age of 16 she doesn't have any problem with her teeth. At that time I told my daughter doctor and she was really impress and she was suggesting that to other parent of children who were thumb sucking.
