16 month old having gritty poops...

My daughter has been having gritty poops on and off for the last couple months.. It reminds me of sand but smaller, looks more like ground pepper... When it gets like this she only poops tiny poops thru the day because it hurts and it cuts up her bottom really bad to the point that the diaper rash bleeds and nothing helps till this round of poop passes and then it seems to get better for a bit...yesterday it was like this again... She was super grumpy and ate very little... She drank fuids fine... But got mad when i offer food... She finally has a good poop this am so i hope this round is over but is there certain foods that i need to avoid? Anyone go thru this?i do plan on journalling her diet from now on but would love some where to start... Nothing stands out as the trigger  :(

This is just a guess, but I would wonder about mild dehydration?  I wish I had something more helpful to offer, but that would be my best guess.  I would definately be talking to her Dr though, especially if it's that painful for her.  Poor little girl...and poor mommy too. Nothing worse then seeing our little ones uncomfortable.  Hope whatever it is clears up soon.

I know it *****... But i make sure she drinks a lot... I know o need to take her to the dr but i dont think our community currently has one... Not for at least a  month or so..  I have to check for sure tho that we might have locoms for now...  But thanks for. .responding... From google ive read different comments but no actual answers... I was hoping some on here has delt or is dealing with same thing... For now ill journal so i can take something to the dr... Hoping we have one!

Well, I would bet anything that it is something diet related, so I think your really smart to be keeping a journal of her diet. That's tough not having a Dr. close by.  How far are you from Saskatoon?  Or you know what I might try?  Healthlink (that's what it's called in Alberta, not sure about Sask, but I lived in Regina, so I know there is something similar).  The nurses on there are fantastic and have so much info.  I'd give that a shot and see what they think. I use that service a lot and they are really good at letting me know whether my son should be seen right away, or if it can wait, etc.  Might put your mind at ease a little bit too.  Ok, just asked my mother in law (she is here visiting from Sask).  She said it's called Health Line there.

Im 1hour 20min outta stoon... But i dont know how allisa would handle being in her car seat for that long then waiting at a walk in... I really dont think it would be pretty lol but i work nights tonight at the hosp in town and will hopefully find out good news lol... See we have 10 long term care beds in there so thats theonly reason its not closed! We r currently in construction of a new LTC facility so if they finish it before we get a doctor for acute care we lose our hospital... But we did have a dr at the clinic but she has since left and i havent worked at that town to know whats going on... But our acute has been closed for a while... Just emergency emergencys are allowed.... Kinda scary thatwe dont have a dr... Im gonna have ro go myself soon for a script...

ps if i HAVE to go to the dr i could go to another town i guess but i hate that dr :(

If you google "child has gritty poop" you get a LOT of hits.  I couldn't find an actual medical article,  just tons of webforums like this one.  It's against TOS to post webforums,  but if you google it yourself you'll see lots of suggestions and experiences.
