3 year old no longer likes his friend

I just found out my 3 1/2 year old suddenly no longer likes his best friend, Sally. These two have been buddies for a year and half, but suddenly he no longer wants to play with her. This is a bit of a problem since her mom and I are fairly good friends. My son and Sally are in the same preschool class, but he has picked out another friend (a boy) that he plays with instead. When that boy is absent, he prefers to play by himself rather than play with Sally. As far as I know, nothing has happened to cause this to occur, but I know Sally is heartbroken at his sudden rejection. What, if anything, can I do about this?
