5 year old crying before classes

by dreams1617, Nov 09, 2009 03:38AM
Hi,

i have a 5 year old boy who is attending Pre-school. However, over the past 2 weeks, he refuses to go to school or his other enrichment classes and will throw a crying fit. I can't reason with him and when he is being questioned for crying, he claimed that he is just tired.

The only extraordinary thing that happened was that he got lost in a departmental store about 1 month ago and was quickly found when he went to the guard for help. But, even after that incident, he went to school and behaved normally until just 2 weeks back. I am not sure whether his 'separation anxiety' is a delayed reaction to this incident?

Need advise please.

Could be but more likely your son is "stressed out" over school.  I might suggest you google the phrase "school refusal" or "anxiety behaviors in young children" or similar words/phrases to see if anxiety and/or stress might be the issue.  Just wondering ....
