Bed time trouble with 2 year old..

by sunshine1333, Jan 08, 2008 08:28PM
I have a two year old and we just got him a toddler bed for christmas, but he will not sleep in it. I have tried laying in it with him tell he falls a sleep, and I have tried putting him to bed in my bed then moving him to his bed but he will wake up soon after and cry tell I put him in my bed. We all share a room so I try to ignore him but he will not give it up. I put him to bed at 8:30 and I don't go to bed 2 or 3 hours later. So my Question is . How do I introduce him to his bed then put a gate up with out him crying for ever. I don't want to make him hate his bed. But i am at a lost of what to do.

We are getting ready to do this transition with my soon and I'm worried we will have these issues, as well.  My daughter is now 4 and when we introduced her to her bed, we had troubles for about a week and then it subsided.  My daughter still took a pacifier at that time, so we made a rule that she could only have it when she was in that bed.  It was that rule that made the transition smoother.  Maybe leave little surprises for him under his pillow, giving him an initiative to want to be in the bed and give him a reason to like the bed.  I had to lay with my daughter for many months.  I was o.k. with that.  Sounds like you are trying that.  When she would fuss, etc. when I was laying with her, I would completely ignore it.  She soon realized that I wasn't going to give her attention when she acted like that, she realized I was still there for her and then she would just go to sleep.  It's a transition, so it will take time.  Good luck!
