Child complaining of hands being "hot"

Hi.  I'm wondering if anyone could shed and light on my problem.  For the past month or so, my 3 year old son has been waking up at night crying complaining that his hands are "hot".  It's getting to the point where he is now complaining of it during the day.  The only thing I can do to help him is to run them under luke warm water, but that's only a temporary fix.  I have an appointment with the pediatrician, but I'm worried that they will just brush it off.  I'm am so scared and worried.  Please help.
