Child with Down's Syndrome biting himself, I'm worried!

I know a child that is 20 months old and is biting himself to the point of breaking his skin and bleeding and causing bruising. I'm worried because you think that he would cry out in pain, but instead he just looks at you and laughs. What should I do?

Meanwhile, do a search for "chewy tubes" on your computer. If you purchased a few of these and offered them to him as an alternative to biting himself, maybe he would bite these instead.
