Help me get my son out of my bed

by mommyoftwobabies, Jun 16, 2008 10:44PM
My son did not sleep through the night the first year of his life in a crib, until I started putting him in the bed with us. I was so sleep deprived that i started nursing him in the bed and letting him fall asleep with us. Before I would nurse him, then put him in his crib, only for him to wake up 2 hours later crying. We have a toddler bed for him, but I can't convince him to stay there! i will sleep with him in the toddler bed until he is alseep, but then he ends up in our bed around 2:00 in the morning and I give in because my hubsand and i both work. He is 3 1/2 any suggestions?

I transitioned my son to the crib mattress on the floor next to my bed before he was your son's age, but maybe you can give your son a choice--he could either sleep in his room in his bed or on the crib mattress on the floor next to your bed.  I think that transitioning him to a place nearby first would be helpful.

My son went through different phases until he was five years old.  At one point, he would start out in our room and I'd carry him into his room when I went to bed. Then I had him start the night in his own room, but he knew that he could come in and sleep on the crib mattress next to my bed if he woke up--but he had to be really quiet and not wake us; if he woke us, I'd take him back to his room.  He only woke us once. At first he was next to my bed most mornings, then that diminished to two times a week or so--then every once in a while.  He eventually stopped coming into our room at night altogether for a few months, so we put the mattress away and he's been in his own bed since.

This is a tough one to crack, you set up the president to start with ,you get him a super bed with great boy covers on it , you talk to him about it,you tell him its his room its his bed, to start with its tough on you, but Hey you do get through it,each night you take him into his own Bed in his own room, you sit and read a nice story to him, then you tell him night, night, you quietly leave the room, he will yell, he will come out of his room, each time! you gently lead him back over and over, I would start at a weekend not a work day.Be consistant, it is upsetting but persevere.
