Potty Training 4 1/2 year old

by Julie16, Jan 27, 2008 12:11PM
My son will be 5 in June and is completely potty trained for urinating - even at night since 3. However, we have yet been able to train for bowel movements. He once successfully had a movement on the toilet but at this point he refuses to even sit on the potty and screams at the idea of using the potty for a bowel movement. He does have some occupational issues which I don't think is causing the issue. What can I do to get him trained??

Thank God I found this site. Now I don't feel all alone in my child's potty training trials and tribulations. My daughter is 3 years 1 month and I have been trying to potty train her since June of 2007. She has done both pee and poops on the potty, but they are never done willingly.  I have tried the M&M bribe, and various other tactics, but she still goes in her Pull Ups. I think she may just be lazy and knows that she can still go in her pants and it's not going to be a problem. I have tried to put her in underpants, but she has peed on my furniture and I'm sorry, I'm not that brave.

She has been in Nursery School since September. I have her wear a Pull Ups since school is only 2 1/2 hours long 3 days a week. She manages to get through it without any movements (but there have been a few times she has and I have to go and change her). She is going to start Pre-K this September, and it's 5 days a week and a full day. I'm am having anxiety already that she will not be fully potty trained by then.

Fingers Crossed!

My almost four year old daughter is having such difficulties with BM potty training.  She is certainly strong-willed and she finally communicated to me that she was afraid that it is painful (she had one bout of constipation at two years old where we sat her on the toilet to poop and she has apparently not forgotten!)  I feel frustrated because she waits until bedtime when the pull-up goes on and then gets out of bed, poops and comes in to our room and lets us know she is "done."  Of course family and friends are getting on my husband and I and until now we really were supportive of her getting to the point herself, but now I am concerned that it may be more.  Any feedback - please post.  Could we be missing something?
