Pyloric stenosis surgery

by Alice777, Dec 26, 2007 12:01PM
My granddaughter had pyloric stenosis surgery when she was 3 months old.  At first it seemed to take care of her symptoms (projectile vomitting, not gaining much weight, etc).  She is now 15 months old and the projectile vomitting is occuring again and she cannot tolerate any regular foods and even has to have her baby food thinned with formula.  She was just given a barrium swallow test again and it shows that the pyloris is thickened.  Is this common for the surgery to not work?

Hi
I had virtually the same thing with my son, he had the Pyloric Stenosis opp when he was 12 weeks old but some time later he started projectiling and not being able to eat solids,  i took him back to the hospital that did the op.  Basically what they said was that sometimes not enough of the pyloric musle is taken away so even though at first the op may appear successful,  due to introducing solids it can still cause problems.  I was told to take him home again and see how it goes, luckily there was only another couple of episodes and it seemed to sort itself out.

My baby had surgery at 31 days, he is now 14 months, and is showing the same symptoms all over again.  Was wondering if it is PS again what will they do??? I really would hate for him to go through a surgery again.
