My son and partner are having a baby in feb 2010 and his partner has a 4 yr old boy from a previous relationship. The past 2 week her son(was fully toileted and only occasionally had a wet bed at night but nothing to worry about) has just stood and wet himself at his grandmas and has being wet through the day every day since.Yesterday whilst he was at our house(im his stedads mum and he calls us grandma and grandad to stop confusion when we have our 1st grandson in feb 2010)he wet and pooed himself, again he has wet and pooed himself at home too.We think it maybe linked to them having a baby and he may be doing this for attention due to jealousy of the new baby?? please please can you give me any advice to how we can deal with this matter as it needs to be dealt with asap before the baby arrives.I dont want to be declining him coming to stay here with us at weekends as we love to have himm come and stay but what can we do,im a 41yr old mum and have never had to deal with this with my grown up sons so any advice woulds be greatly appreciated.
Many tahnks

There is a good possibility that it may be linked to jealousy of the new baby. If that is the case, he may need a lot of quality one-on-one time to help calm his fears. The worst thing that you can do is make a big deal about it and make him feel bad, that will just foster the jealousy and make him that that he is being punished for something that may be basically out of his control. Good luck to you, and i hope all works out well for all of you.
