loud 4 1/2 yr old

I have a very loud and busy 4 1/2 year old boy. He seems to HAVE to yell all the time and his games mainly involve throwing, jumping and of course yelling. I have an older son and a younger daughter which neither of them seem to have the same qualities.
He will be starting school next year which brings me to be concerned that this type of play in the school yard will not truly be understood. He doesn't seem to realise just how loud or hard he is playing and will mostly apologise if he does any harm to other children.
Does anyone have any ideas for us to help him bring his play (and his volume!) down to an exceptable level?
