My son eats ALOT (i think ?)

My son began eating more and more since he's been born....first it was 4oz, then 51/2 then 6, then 61/2 now its more like 7 sometimes 8......This seems to be ALOT. Just wondering how much your 2mos olds are eating?

I have been wondering about this as my daughter is only 4 weeks old and eating anywhere from 3-6 sometimes even 7 ozs every 3-4 hours!
I have had a lot of experience with a baby that eats a lot because my son ate like a elephant!  *I breast fed my son for 2 months and my daughter for 3-4 days)
He hit 24 pounds at 5 months! Anyway with my son, his ped put him on baby veggies, fruit, and cereal at 5 months because he is a big boy and was just not getting enough from the formula anymore. He has never been below the 75%, hes usually in the 90-97%!
As for my daughter, she was admitted into peds for jaundice at 4 days old, my milk tasted funny form the meds I was on and there for would not eat. When I took her home she was 6 days old and eating 4 ozs every 4 hours or on demand. That is what I was told to do by the ped that was taking care of her.
Im not to sure how much she weighs right now (I will weigh when she wakes up) but I just think that 5-6 ozs is to much for her but if she has been having 4 ozs since she was 4 days old then it should be àbout` right, no? The other thing is that she will almost never fall asleep with out  something in her mouth! I tried the regular store soothies and she HATES them so I bought the hospital kind but she has learned the difference between them and the bottle nipples. So now I usually put about an oz in a bottle and she just kind of nurses from it but more so just wants it in her mouth. Anyone have a suggestion on what else I could do??

I don't think it's too much...my son also eats about 4-7oz every 4-5 hours during the day, and he goes 7 hours at night. He's 97% for height and 50% for weight so I know he's just right. I asked the doctor and they said that as long as he's not spitting it back up, just feed him what he's hungry for. when he starts solids he'll slow down on the formula intake.

my daughter was eating 3-5oz at this point but she was 80% for height and 40% for weight so I think that the difference in their eating is also the difference in their sizes. I'm not worried at all and I personally won't be starting rice right away....I'm not so much worried about allergies but especially in babies with ahem 'healthy appetites' like my boy, it can cause weight gain that can be excessive and since he's exactly 50% for weight...I'm good with where he's at and so is his pediatrician :).

I agree that is alot for a 2 month old.. def. ask ur doc about rice.  i have a friend whos baby had to have rice and baby food in his bottle of formula at like 3 months cause he jsut couldnt get full... my son is just now eating 6 oz every three hours. and he is 4 months old.  weighs 14lbs 110z and 26 and half in.  he was also only eating 3 oz at 2 months, so u should call his doc as soon as u can

i too started rice at 6 weeks and my pediatrician ok'd it because ariana suffered from reflux and was constantly wanting to eat like every hour to the point where she was over eating.
i think it depends on the ped. some say they should eat 3 oz every 3 hours. mine says 4 oz every 4 hours. i think the general rule is they should double their weight in ounces a day. i realize sometimes they aren't hungry right on schedule, so just gather an average of how many ounces he eats a day and figure it out from there.

i just had my daughter at the ped yesterday for her 6 week weight check (she was 8 weeks premature so she has numerous weight checks)....i asked to the doc this questions and this what she told me

she said at 2 months the baby should not be eating more then 3 oz of formula per feeding...my daughter was eating 4-5 oz breastmilk and 2 oz formula...so the doc told me that rice cereal is ok for the baby...this will help her eat around 3 oz but also make her feel full

just a suggestion....but i would def talk to your ped before you start rice

well he eats every 4 hrs. sometimes every 3. The doctor said he is in the 75th percentile of babies in height (24 1/2 as of Sept 1st) 50th percentile for weight. So, Idk. Sometimes...he will sleep 5 hrs...and will wake up happy and content and will then eat evry 5 hrs now. depending on how much he in the previous feeding...... before we would only feed him 6oz and he wasn't satisfied....so now he eats like 7 or 7 and 1/2.

that is a lot for a baby that is 2 months old. but it also depends on how often he is eating the bottle and how much he weighs. my daughter was also eating way too much around 2 months old and was seen by the doctor and what they told me was babies around that age are supposed to be doubling their weight in ounces everyday. if he is more than doubling his weight in ounces that is a problem and needs to be discussed with his pediatrician as he can develop excess weight.
