2 year old pediatrician told not to give milk

My daughter's pediatrician told her not to give her my granddaughter milk, she is two years old.  She has had a problem eating but now she is eating pretty good.  I just cannot understand a pediatrician telling her that milk is for baby cows not for kids.  I understand that she probably wants her to eat better but my daughter doesn't want her to have any milk.  I have her told this and I can't believe that she thinks that milk is not good for her!!!  Her pediatrician was probably trying to get her to eat better but my daughter thinks it's forever!!!!  If I could have a reply to show her I would very much appreciate it.

I would get clarification, however, my pediatrician said the same thing.  My daughter was highly lactose intollerant and it gave her horrible tummy aches.  We supplmented the vitamins you get out of milk otherways.  There are some people out there that believe that cow's milk was intended for cows and not humans - i'm surprised a doctor, however, would be pushing it.  I heard this statement about cows a lot when I was breast feeding.

WOW your daughter totally took it the wrong way..you are probably right, that the dr. was just saying that so she can eat more, the dr. shoud have just said less mild more food...a 2 yr. old still needs to drink milk...everyone should drink milk...but especially a 2 yr. old..and that should only be 2-3 cups a day!!! sorry she  misunderstood it all.

Hi Nancy, you sound like a loving, thoughtful and worried grandmother. This issue sounds like one of poor communication. It sounds like you may need to speak with your daughter about your concerns in a neutral (nonemotional) setting and voice your concerns. As for the dietary issues that concern you, I advise you to post a question in the pediatric or dietary forum as that is not my area of expertise. Best of luck. DrG
