by gurjas, Oct 19, 2009 09:36PM
hello. i hope someone can please help me. im a 20 year old male. i recently got a bunch of bloodwork done. one of the tests was dopamine. this is what my result said: "Dopamine- results are below reportable range for this analyte, which is 10pg/mL"
Supine: Less than 10 pg/mL
Upright: Less than 20 pg/mL

my epinephrine and norepinephrine came back normal. but my dopamines seems so low.

can i restore/recover it? is there any diet or anything that will help recover it? im really scared that im 20 and have depleted this...i dont want parkinsons or anything. if someone can please let me know id really appreciate it. thank you.

Parkinson's is caused by more than just a drop in dopamine levels. Do you have any other medical conditions? Do you take medication? What did they say was the cause of the dopamine levels? If they believed you had Parkinson's they would have told you. Ask them what the results mean and then you could discuss what to do from there further.

thank you for your response. i dont have any serious, significant medical conditions. i have a vit D difficiency, my dhea is a little low, and im hypothyroid with elevated antibodies. still working on clearing it up. but i dont understand why my dopamine is gone. i was reading about the symptoms and i fit the mental dullness and lack of drive, along with other symptoms.

Well Parkinson's has a whole set of symptoms. That's not what you described. Dopamine boosting medications are needed to treat it but they have serious side effects of their own. Speak to the doctor who authorized the test and ask what might help. However, having hypothyroid can cause mental dullness and lack of drive along with a whole host of other symptoms so that is the more likely cause and there is of course treatment for that. Speak to an endocrinologist or whoever authorized it and they can inform you more.
