I'm Stumped is what the dr. said

by bjhii, Aug 06, 2009 10:20PM
I am 39 and have had small head tremors sence 1994.about 5 months ago my head tremors got much worse and I mean worse. My head shakes all the time and my left little finger jumps up and down like it is playing the piano and my right hand and fingers jerk around.I have a hard time getting up when I sit and I'm very unconfertable in bed and in the morning. My balance is bad' I tend to fall backwards. I have also started stutering or repeating words.
I have seen a neurologist. had a mri and all the blood test. They were all normal.I am on carbidopa/leva and it does slow it all down and when I first took it it would stop for a bit.
But know one has been able to tell me what I have. This is very flustreating to me.

a bit of advise if you are not satisfied with what the Neurologist has to say find another one. I see a movement specialist. I have seen several Neurolgist until I found my current Doc and I am happy I made the switch.

Good Luck

Thank you for your comment.I first went to a local neurologist,He has done a good job and I havent been unhappy with him. Then I went to the movement disorder Dr. at UAMS.He stated he had never seen anything like it and it might be just in my head or I was putting on for some reason.Last week I went to Washington U. in St.Louis and saw movement Dr..He said he was classifing it as a parkinsonism do to the tremors in my hands and fingers and my that he beleaves it to have something to do with dopamean. But he didn't know what to make of the side to side head tremors. He is increasing the amount of sinemet and changed it off the time release. This still dosn't tell me what I have wrong with me.
I saw me local neurologist yesterday and he seemed to be out out with me and said it made him feel better that they were stumped to and told my wife that I looked worse than I did 2 months ago.He also said that we might be getting to many cooks in the kitchen ,which I agree with,But he made all the referral appointment that I have gone to.
I guess I'm just getting flustrated and need answers and to vent a little.Do most people have this much trouble getting answers and proper treatment.I would also like to ad I have only been sick like 3 times my intire life and have been to the Dr. maybe 10 times, besides to get stiches untill this got bad back in march.

I have to tell you that my current Doctor finds me to be very in tune with my body, the reason being is it took many years before the doctors made the diagnosis of young onset parkinson disease. It has been almost 8 years from that day in the Doctors office. However I showed signs for over 5 years prior. Stiffness of 1 side of my body, softer voice, fatigue and a little tremor in my hand. The one thing that we all forget is that Doctors are human too they only  recived a Medical degree  they did not learn how to read minds. I used to think well you can see I don't feel good fix it, but they cant see everything so we as patients need to tell them everthing that we feel  I have learned to keep notes in between Doctors visits and take charge of how the visit goes. Most Dr encourage it. Best of luck to you.

I'm from St. Louis too. I've gone to Dr. Lee and Dr. Singer. I might be looking for another doctor because my MRI came back normal and we might be running out of options for investigation. I have horrible neck spasms and cramping, headaches and neck aches, cramping in my shin, calf, ankle and knee which causes me to limp around a lot. I'm a teacher which is a very physical job and my symptoms exhaust me. They were looking at MS because of my numbness as well. I think they should be looking at Parkinsons because my grandmother had it. I was told it's not hereditary but it has a genetic link. What's the difference?
