Parkinson's Disease and exposure to TCE

by olebuzzard1954, Mar 03, 2009 08:05PM
While in the military from 1972-1979, I was constantly exposed every day and all day to"trichloroethylene".(TCE) We used it to clean everything, including us.I was diagnosed with PD in 1999, but thinking back on my health, I remember having small but persistent health issuses (shaking hands and slow movements at times , etc) as far back as 1975 but never went to see a corpsman or doc  about my health concerns cause it wasn't cool back then to do so. I know that somewhere I read  some studies concerning a link between PD and exposure. to TCE.  Do you have any info concerning a link between the two ?

To: Parkinson's disease TCE exposure
This is the last line of an article from Annals of Neurology published in Jan/Feb 2008, and a link to the abstract of that article on Pubmed (NIH website).

INTERPRETATION: Trichloroethylene, used extensively in industry and the military and a common environmental contaminant, joins other mitochondrial neurotoxins, MPTP (1-methyl-4-phenyl-1,2,3,6-tetrahydropyridine) and some pesticides, as a risk factor for parkinsonism.
