14 year daughter has passing out spells in PE

by momma2abcd, Nov 05, 2009 05:24PM
my 14 daughter has had 3 bouts of almost passing out, weak, recently since august 09 and a couple of others over the past two years. she would do this during or just after running in PE (EACH TIME). her EKG was abnormal, the EKG Interpretation was

Rate 80......sinus rythym rate 80
pr 152 .......ventricular premature complex.........RR =100
QRSD 96....... RVH voltage criteria.......
QT 346..........Probable right ventricular hypertrophy........RVH voltage criteria only
QTc 459........consider left atrial enlargement..................P=44mS IN v1

This was done about 4 hours her spell at school She also had complete blood work (her white cells count were up) sugar levels were fine. She had an EEG that was normal. All done the same day.

she went to the cardiologists and he said he hears a swoosh sound and said she has a hole in the heart and needs to do an echocardigram to see the hole and if it needs repair or just watch it every year to make sure it stays small.

well the echo came back normal and said she has no hole and no need to follow up.

well  today she had the same problem while running. Once she stopped and relaxed she was fine. she is healthy, no colds or anything else going on.

Should I get a second opinion? or what is your opinion.

Thank you,
Crystal

What were the findings on the echo as far as the Hypertrophy went?

Well I called her peds Dr and she called back yesterday evening and said that the cardiologist shouldnt of had said it was normal cause it stated that the findings were incluclusive basically cause the tech had such a hard time that day getting good angles of her heart. so the peds dr is referring her to a different dr. the report said it seen something but couldnt get a good visual. her peds dr was pretty upset that they said it was normal. Only because they didnt have good pictures.

Thanks for reading

Your pediatrician should turn you over to a pediatric cardiologist for evaluation. If there is RVH then you want to know for sure and work from there with a good cardiologist finding a treatment plan. Hypertrophies aren't something you want to see your daughter have. One good point is that RVH is not as critical as having LVH which is the prime pumping chamber.

She did go to a pediactric cardiologists at the childrens hospital in phoenix. That is what is mind boggling to her peds Dr that he didnt get a good read and yet said it was normal. she did say they seen something but couldnt get a good view. so he just didnt want to be bothered with it or something. So she is trying to find another peds cardiologists asap for her. Even her peds dr was worried about the RVH at the beginning too.

oh and before her echo test the Cardio dr said for her to eat more salt. To keep her hydrated. She is but she also drinks a lot of water as it is.

Momma, in order for you to stay well hydrated, you must also eat  a lot of protein. People don't seem to know that and why the doctors don't mention it is beyond me. The protein is what help the body to hold onto fluid in the right places. If you don't get enough protein, you can continue to drink and still end up dehydrated.

I agree with you, as for the protien or nutrition in general, I make sure she (all my kids) eats well as much as I can, I have fruit/veges all the time at home which I make them eat for snacks, Now as for lunch at school that is a whole different ballgame with a high schooler.. haha.

The Cardio Dr was more worried about her eating more salt than anything else it seemed. Thinking she was just passing out due to dehydration. I just dont think it is dehydration...... when he said the echo was normal it didnt set right inside me.

God gave all mother's a good gut instinct; follow your instinct and don't settle until you are absolutely sure there is no problem.

Well my daughter went to a different peds cardiologist today. well everything was fine, her ekg was not accurate I guess according to the findings listed above. BUT the Dr wanted to check her aeorta valve root and it messures 2.4 so it is abnormally on the larger side. So she needs to go evry year to have it checked. This had nothing to do with her almost passing out though cause passing out is normal for teenagers

Hello momma, I am glad to hear everything's okay with your daughter. The echo is a much better tool for looking at hypertrophies of the heart, so now having that looked at again should help to make you feel more at peace. How nice is that, right? :)
